Job Title: Signal Integrity Engineer Job Description The Signal Integrity Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of high-speed, complex hardware designs for next-generation automotive electronic control units (ECUs). This position focuses on analyzing and mitigating signal degradation issues such as noise, crosstalk, and reflections to reduce costly delays, prevent field failures, and improve overall product quality. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to optimize design processes, support semiconductor and connectivity strategies, and help drive innovation in central compute, autonomous capabilities, and advanced in-vehicle electronics. This is a hybrid role that combines on-site collaboration with flexible remote work, contributing directly to the development and approval of production ECU designs. Responsibilities Perform detailed signal integrity (SI) simulations using tools such as HyperLynx, HFSS, or CST to identify and resolve issues related to crosstalk, signal loss, reflections, and other performance degradations in high-speed designs. Analyze PCB layout designs for high-speed, multi-layer boards to ensure optimal signal performance, providing clear feedback and recommendations to layout and hardware design teams. Collaborate with hardware engineers to optimize high-speed signal paths and ensure compliance with specifications for interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, USB, SerDes, Ethernet, and other high-speed communication buses. Evaluate and validate signal integrity for power delivery networks (PDN) to minimize noise, ground bounce, and power and ground integrity issues. Work closely with PCB layout, hardware, and mechanical teams to ensure that design choices align with signal integrity best practices and robust electrical design standards. Partner with systems engineering and software teams to maintain signal integrity across the entire product stack, from silicon-level design through full system integration in the vehicle. Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies for verifying signal integrity on prototypes and production-intent hardware using oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers (VNA), time domain reflectometry (TDR), and protocol analyzers. Create, maintain, and continuously improve signal integrity design guidelines, best practices, and checklists to support hardware engineers throughout the product development lifecycle. Lead the evaluation of new materials, design techniques, and analysis tools that enhance signal integrity, and propose innovations to improve overall system performance and robustness. Diagnose and resolve signal integrity issues during the bring-up phase of new products, working quickly to minimize impact on time-to-market and production schedules. Utilize established engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs, ensuring designs meet internal specifications and testing requirements from early hardware through production. Support the ECU hardware design team’s mission to deliver robust, well-designed electrical hardware that meets the growing needs of customers and aligns with evolving automotive compute, body, zone controllers, and multi-view camera technologies. Contribute to product development and integration activities for in-vehicle electronics, helping to shape the future direction of automotive central compute and autonomous capabilities. Essential Skills Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field. 5+ years of experience in signal integrity, high-speed PCB design, or related areas in hardware engineering. Strong understanding of high-speed signal transmission principles, including impedance control, crosstalk, noise, signal attenuation, and reflections. Proficiency in signal integrity analysis tools such as HyperLynx, HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar industry-standard simulation software. Hands-on experience using lab equipment including oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers (VNAs), time domain reflectometry (TDR) instruments, and protocol analyzers for hardware validation. Expertise in PCB layout and design rules for high-speed, multi-layer boards, with a focus on maintaining signal integrity and power integrity. Experience with high-speed communication buses and interfaces such as Ethernet, PCIe, SerDes, DDR, USB, and other advanced digital interfaces. Ability to analyze complex hardware designs and provide clear, actionable recommendations to improve signal integrity and overall system performance. Capability to contribute to process improvements and the development of new methodologies for signal integrity analysis within a hardware engineering environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong experience in hardware and electrical engineering, including practical experience with electronics and high-speed data simulation. Familiarity with current signal integrity trends, emerging technologies, and innovations in high-speed data transmission for automotive and compute systems. Experience working in cross-functional teams that include hardware, PCB layout, mechanical, systems, and software engineers. Comfort with fast-moving, innovation-focused environments developing next-generation ECUs and in-vehicle electronics. Ability to document and communicate design guidelines, best practices, and technical findings in a clear and concise manner. Qualification reference: 154419-1 (internal use). Work Environment This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation to report on-site at a technical center in Warren, MI or Sunnyvale, CA several times per week, complemented by remote work as business needs allow. You will work within a dynamic ECU electrical team focused on cutting-edge in-vehicle electronics, including central compute, body and zone controllers, multi-view cameras, PCIe, and advanced digital and analog interfaces. The environment emphasizes collaboration across hardware, PCB layout, mechanical, systems, and software teams, using industry-standard simulation tools (such as HyperLynx, HFSS, CST, ADS) and lab equipment including oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDR instruments, and protocol analyzers. The culture values innovation, continuous improvement, and rigorous engineering practices to meet demanding specifications and testing requirements from early hardware through production. The setting is a professional technical facility designed to support detailed design work, laboratory testing, and cross-functional collaboration on next-generation automotive systems.
