About the Role

Help learners design services that work better for the people who use them. We are looking for a Skills Coach with experience delivering learning in service design to support adults through our Service Designer Level 6 apprenticeship.

Part of our Operations team and reporting to the Apprenticeships Manager, you will work with learners, their line managers and colleagues across curriculum and delivery to support engagement, timely progress and successful completion.

You will help learners apply service design methods in their own organisations, using evidence about user needs to understand services, develop and test ideas, and work with stakeholders to improve the end-to-end experience.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide personalised coaching, feedback and motivation to a cohort of adult learners, adapting your support to their needs and workplace context.
  • Create individual learning plans that connect on-the-job and off-the-job learning, with clear goals and active involvement from learners’ line managers.
  • Hold monthly one-to-one coaching sessions of at least 30 minutes and tripartite progress reviews with learners and their line managers every 6–8 weeks.
  • Develop and deliver engaging subject-specific learning resources, group workshops and webinars that help learners put their knowledge into practice.
  • Track progress, set SMART goals and prepare learners for end-point assessment through professional discussions, questions and answers, and targeted feedback.
  • Identify learners at risk of falling behind or disengaging, agree tailored interventions and keep team leaders informed. Support learners on breaks in learning to return, and those facing delays to complete.
  • Maintain accurate learner records on the day of each interaction, monitor off-the-job learning requirements and deliver against agreed quality and performance targets.
  • Refer learners for functional skills support where needed, contribute to standardisation meetings and work with curriculum colleagues to keep learning relevant and effective.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience delivering training, teaching or structured learning in service design. You must be able to demonstrate how you have supported learners to apply their learning in practice.
  • A relevant qualification at Level 6 or above in Service Design or a closely related field, in line with the level of delivery.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of service design, including user-centred design, research and insight, journey mapping, service blueprints, prototyping, testing and stakeholder collaboration.
  • The ability to plan individual learning, give constructive feedback, monitor progress and maintain accurate records while managing a learner caseload.
  • A minimum of GCSE grades A*–C in English and Mathematics, or grades 9–4 under the current grading system.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering the Service Designer Level 6 apprenticeship.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of leadership principles, with the ability to relate these to learners’ work.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring senior management professionals.
  • A teaching qualification, relevant professional body membership, or qualifications in learning, assessment or internal verification.

Interpersonal Fit

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Shares our values and brings curiosity and a joy of learning to their work.
  • Communicates clearly and builds trusting relationships with learners, employers and colleagues.
  • Takes ownership, delivers high-quality work and responds proactively when learners need support.
  • Works collaboratively and creates an inclusive learning environment for people from different backgrounds.
