ABOUT THE COMPANY
Apria Healthcare’s mission is to improve the quality of life for our patients at home. We are looking for empathetic, thoughtful and compassionate people, to meet the needs of our patients. Already an industry leader in healthcare services, we provide home respiratory services and select medical equipment to help our patients sleep better, breathe better, heal faster, and thrive longer.
JOB SUMMARY
As a Sleep Coach, you’ll help patients get the most out of their CPAP therapy by providing personalized guidance, education, and support throughout their first year of treatment. This is a remote-based position where you’ll connect with patients, helping them understand their therapy, work through challenges, and build habits that support better adherence.
You’ll use patient usage data, coaching techniques, and your knowledge of sleep therapy to understand what may be getting in the way and help patients find practical solutions. You’ll also educate patients on equipment, insurance requirements, cleaning, resupply, and the resources available to them.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, communicating one-on-one, and making a meaningful difference in the patient experience. Because the role is remote based, you’ll need to be comfortable working independently while staying connected and collaborative with your team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Proactively reach out to and respond to patients during their first full year of CPAP therapy.
• Conduct inbound and outbound calls to coach, educate, and encourage patients as they adjust to CPAP therapy.
• Help patients identify barriers to using their therapy consistently and provide practical tools and strategies to overcome them.
• Review patient usage information through manufacturer software and use that information to guide meaningful, data-driven conversations.
• Use knowledge of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) to help patients understand their therapy and the potential benefits of consistent use.
• Provide basic troubleshooting support for PAP and mask equipment and help patients understand how to use their equipment properly.
• Encourage patients to take an active role in their therapy, including downloading and using manufacturer mobile applications.
• Educate patients about insurance requirements, equipment cleaning, and future resupply needs.
• Verify patient demographics, physician information, and communication preferences during patient contacts.
• Accurately document patient interactions, questions, concerns, and next steps in the patient account.
• Share ideas and identify opportunities to improve the patient experience and support business growth in a positive and constructive manner.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and company privacy requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with patients diagnosed with OSA is preferred.
• Experience working with various insurance plans, including HMO, PPO, and Medicare, is preferred.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Patient-Focused: You genuinely enjoy helping people and take the time to understand each patient's needs, concerns, and goals.
• Action-Oriented: You are comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and finding solutions with minimal supervision. This is especially important in a remote-based role.
• Collaborative: You work well with others and contribute to a positive, supportive team environment, even when working remotely.
• Effective Communicator: You communicate clearly and comfortably with patients over the phone and can explain information in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
• Energetic and Passionate: You care about helping people improve their health and well-being and bring a positive attitude to your interactions.
• Relationship Builder: You build trust quickly and create positive relationships with patients through consistent, thoughtful communication.
COMPUTER SKILLS
• Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, MS Project, and Visio.
• Comfortable learning and using manufacturer software and digital tools to support patient care.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• English proficiency, including reading, writing, and verbal communication.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
• Moderate mathematical proficiency with the ability to understand, interpret, and work with spreadsheet data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a primarily stationary, remote-based position requiring frequent sitting or standing, repetitive wrist motions, grasping, speaking, listening, close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
The position may occasionally require lifting, carrying, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and reaching above the shoulder. The position may also occasionally require lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
