Job Title: Software Developer in Test
Job Description
This contract role focuses on developing and executing software tests to support software and integrated system releases for medical device products. You will design, implement, and maintain both manual and automated test scripts and tools to verify software against approved requirements and design specifications. Working closely with software engineering and verification teams, you will apply hands-on C#, WPF, C++, and automated test framework experience to ensure thorough, well-documented, and traceable testing for complex medical device software systems and integration projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts, test tools, and test cases to support software development and verification activities.
- Apply strong C# and WPF application development experience to design and enhance test tools and frameworks in addition to performing automated testing.
- Execute both manual and automated test protocols to verify software functionality, performance, and integration against approved requirements and design specifications.
- Document test results, defects, anomalies, and traceability in a clear and structured manner to support regulated medical device development processes.
- Collaborate closely with developers, testers, verification specialists, and quality personnel to investigate issues, clarify requirements, and improve test coverage.
- Work hands-on with the internally used end unit and integrated system, including related software and test environments, to support system-level and component-level testing.
- Support internal project work related to integration initiatives and contribute to the success of the G4 project and other medical device software efforts.
- Participate in ongoing improvement of test automation approaches, frameworks, and tools to increase efficiency, reliability, and repeatability of testing.
- Ensure that all testing activities, documentation, and defect tracking comply with established processes and standards for regulated medical device software.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant software development and/or software testing experience, with approximately 5 to 10 years preferred.
- Solid application development experience with C# and WPF, with strong software development fundamentals.
- Hands-on automated testing experience, with 5 years preferred; 2 to 3 years may be considered for candidates with especially strong application development experience.
- Experience developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts and tools.
- Ability to design and execute manual test protocols and accurately document test results, defects, and traceability.
- Practical experience working with automated test frameworks such as NUnit, Google Test, or JUnit.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with software developers, testers, verification, and quality teams.
- Ability to work with integrated systems and test environments in a regulated software development context.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in software engineering, computer science, engineering technology, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience with VTK is strongly preferred for visualization and related development or testing tasks.
- Experience with C++ is an asset, particularly for working with existing codebases and test frameworks.
- Experience with ITK is an additional asset for image processing and related workflows.
- Familiarity with DICOM is beneficial for working with medical imaging data and workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools is an asset for integrating automated tests into build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience using industry-standard test frameworks such as NUnit, Google Test, and JUnit in C# and C++ environments.
- Experience in medical device software development, verification, or validation is advantageous, particularly in regulated environments.
- Ability to quickly learn complex systems and contribute to integration projects such as the G4 project.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with a strong preference for candidates who can work from Winnipeg to collaborate directly with the established software development and testing teams and ramp up quickly. Minneapolis is a secondary location option. Office attendance is required as needed to support hands-on work with the internally used end unit, system and component integration, and test environments.
