Who are we looking for?
Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as our Software Engineer 1 in the Data and analytics platform. The data and analytics platform provides access to data for use in reporting and analytics that enables business solutions. As a key member of our data and analytics platform you will contributes to a limited number of system components while building technical expertise and practical software engineering experience under the guidance of senior engineering staff. The engineer writes secure, stable, and maintainable code, participates in code reviews, develops and executes unit tests, and assists with production releases and issue resolution. The position works collaboratively with engineering, quality assurance, and business partners and is an individual contributor with no direct reports.

Your Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and debug secure, maintainable code under the guidance of senior engineers, following established standards, source control, and CI/CD practices.
- Write and run automated and manual unit tests, and partner with Test Engineering on defect resolution.
- Support production releases and help resolve post-production issues.
- Analyze user stories and requirements and work with business partners to clarify the underlying needs.
- Collaborate in an agile team, participate in code reviews, and keep building technical skills to take on more complex work.
Your Experience, Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Relevant technical training or certifications may be considered based on the needs of the position.
- Experience or academic exposure across the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, coding, debugging, testing, release, and operational support.
- Familiarity with agile software development methodologies and object-oriented programming concepts.
Technical Skills
- Java 8 or later
- Python
- Jenkins/Harness/CI CD tools
- AWS or related cloud technologies
- Git/Bitbucket SQL and relational databases
Nice to have
- Spring Framework, including Spring REST, Spring Security, Spring MVC, and Spring AOP
