About the company
Grandhelm is recruiting on behalf of a leading, fast-growing manufacturing company that is establishing its in-house IT and software development capabilities. Grandhelm is supporting the company in creating and developing this team. The team is leading the company's digital transformation. It designs and builds the platform that supports how the company plans, sources, and manufactures its products.
This is not a traditional enterprise IT position. It is a role in a high-performance, high-impact team: small, focused, and trusted to deliver. Your team's work reaches production quickly and has a direct effect on daily business operations. You contribute to architecture and product decisions and see the results of your work on the shop floor.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain features across a modern web platform, from backend APIs to the user interface
- Translate manufacturing processes into working software
- Integrate the new platform with existing business systems as it progressively replaces them
- Contribute to operating the platform in the cloud, primarily on Microsoft Azure, alongside some on-premises infrastructure
- Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to maintain a high standard of quality
- Work within an Agile team, with planning, reviews, and retrospectives
What we value
- Communication. You collaborate closely with engineers and with business stakeholders, including planners, production managers, and operators. You explain technical decisions clearly, ask the right questions, and raise issues early.
- Curiosity. You seek to understand how things work, in both the software and the manufacturing process. You investigate problems thoroughly and learn new tools and technologies independently.
- Ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes, not only for tasks, and you see your work through to production.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of professional software development experience
- Strong programming fundamentals and a genuine interest in building software that people rely on
- The ability to work effectively in a small, fast-paced, collaborative team
- Fluent Portuguese and working knowledge of English, written and spoken
Strong plus: AI-native engineering
The team works at the leading edge of AI-assisted development and uses these tools daily. Practical, hands-on experience with any of the following is a strong advantage:
- Agentic coding harnesses: day-to-day use of tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot in agent mode, beyond autocomplete, to plan, implement, test, and refactor across a codebase
- Context engineering: shaping how agents work in a repository through project instructions (e.g. CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md), reusable skills, custom commands, hooks, and well-scoped prompts
- Model Context Protocol (MCP): connecting agents to tools and data through existing MCP servers, and building your own servers to expose internal systems safely
- Agent orchestration: designing workflows with subagents, parallel agents, and long-running or background tasks, and knowing when to split, delegate, and verify work
- Building with LLM APIs: integrating models into products through tool use, structured outputs, retrieval (RAG and embeddings), and prompt caching
- Evaluation and reliability: writing evals for prompts and agents, measuring output quality, and managing cost, latency, and token usage
- Security and governance: guarding against prompt injection, sandboxing agent permissions, keeping secrets and sensitive data out of model context, and keeping humans in control of what reaches production
Above all, we value engineers who use these tools responsibly: they understand and review every change, test generated code, and stay accountable for the result.
Nice to have (not required)
Experience with the following technologies is an advantage, not a requirement. The team supports you in learning the rest.
- Backend: C# / .NET, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core, REST APIs and OpenAPI
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, TanStack (Query, Router, Table), Tailwind CSS, React Hook Form
- Data: PostgreSQL, SQL Server, data integration and change data capture
- Cloud and DevOps: Microsoft Azure (AKS, Container Registry, Key Vault), Azure DevOps pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps with ArgoCD, Terraform
- Identity: Keycloak, OpenID Connect (OIDC)
- Testing: xUnit, Testcontainers, Vitest, Mock Service Worker (MSW)
- Practices: Domain-driven design, API-first development, CI/CD, ERP integration
What we offer
- Competitive compensation
- A hybrid work model, based at the office in Paços de Ferreira, Portugal
- A position in a high-performance team at an early stage, with real influence over the platform and the team's ways of working
- A modern technology stack, including AI-assisted development
- No-Blame Culture: a team where you can ask questions, raise concerns, and admit mistakes openly, and where ideas are judged on their merit
- Room to grow, with responsibility that increases as your experience does
- Mentorship from experienced software engineers
- A stable, growing company committed to investing in technology, with the support of Grandhelm
