Overview

Being good neighbors – helping people, investing in our communities, and making the world a better place – is who we are at State Farm. It is at the core of how we operate and the reason for our success. We're moving with urgency to become a Next Gen Good Neighbor, with technology that strengthens human connections and enhances the customer experience. As an employee, you'll spend less time navigating systems and more time applying judgment, empathy, and expertise in the moments that matter most.

Grow Your Skills, Grow Your Potential

Responsibilities

The Claims-Engineering team within Enterprise Technology is building the future-state delivery system for one of the largest Claims applications at State Farm. Working in the Engineering department on a DevOps and Infrastructure team, you'll work directly with engineering and business partners to make decisions and drive pace. Your work is the automation that gets application code into the right place, in the right shape, and running the right way. As a member of the Claims-Engineering team you'll be challenged and empowered to grow professionally.

If you're curious about infrastructure, this role puts a lot of it in front of you quickly. The system spans CI/CD pipelines, deployment configuration managed as code and the tooling that generates it, container images and manifests, and the observability and secrets tooling around them, all running on the enterprise's Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA) platforms. We’re just getting started on a new platform that you’ll help us build out while working closely with the teams that own the application build process, the application framework, and the underlying infrastructure. We're hiring for aptitude as much as current depth. If you're early in your infrastructure career and want to learn, this team has the scope and the senior engineers to get you there.

Area of Focus:

  • Build the CI/CD pipelines that deploy containerized Java applications across environments
  • Write and maintain Kubernetes and OpenShift manifests and deployment configuration
  • Work on infrastructure as code and on the in-house deployment tooling written in Go, Python, and Bash
  • Help move deployment configuration toward a GitOps model
  • Build and patch container base images and application images
  • Diagnose and fix deployment and environment problems, picking up production support responsibilities as you go
  • Write runbooks, decision records, and team documentation
  • Apply skills, tools, security processes, applications, environments, and programming languages to complete assignments with guidance and direction from experienced engineers
  • Maintain and develop understanding of software engineering topics including version control, CI/CD, containers, and compute environments including Linux and Public Cloud
  • Leverage inner source best practices to encourage code discoverability and collaboration across the enterprise

Qualifications

We Are Seeking Candidates With:

  • Containers and Kubernetes: images, pods, services, and deployment configuration (OpenShift or ROSA a strong plus)
  • CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Linux fundamentals
  • Scripting and automation in Python, Bash, or Go
  • Git and version control workflow
  • Comfortable reading Java application code and application server logs

Additional Skills:

  • A real willingness to learn. We're investing in this role, and we care more about where you're headed than about the length of your résumé.
  • ArgoCD or other GitOps tooling
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform)
  • Observability tooling (Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus/Grafana)
  • Secrets management
  • AWS fundamentals
  • Curious. Willing to dig into unfamiliar code and infrastructure, ask questions, and follow a problem all the way down
  • Collaborative. Works well with cross-functional teams and senior engineers, and says clearly where things stand
  • Takes ownership of work from development through production
  • Writes things down. Contributes to runbooks, decision records, and documented processes
  • Takes code review feedback well and wants to learn from the senior engineers around you

Work Locations: Bloomington, IL-Corporate, Dunwoody, GA-Park Center Hub, Richardson, TX-CityLine Hub or Tempe, AZ-Marina Heights Hub locations.

Hybrid Work Arrangement: A “Hybrid” position means selected candidates will be assigned to a facility and will spend some time working both in the office and from home. For Enterprise Technology, a hybrid work arrangement will require approximately 40% in-office time each month, beginning in late 2027.

SPONSORSHIP: Applicants for this position are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g. H-1B visa) for this opportunity.
