An exciting opportunity has been made available to join the bank as a Software Engineer – AI Enablement in the ever-evolving Fraud CIO. This role will be to combine hands-on software engineering with AI enablement, intelligent automation and the development of AI-assisted engineering practices. They will establish a specialist engineering capability focused on identifying, developing and embedding AI-enabled approaches that improve how Fraud Technology is designed, built, tested, operated and evolved.


THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

Fraud is looking for a Software Engineer based out of Milton Keynes, Unity Place.

Applicants must possess a degree in Digital Technology Solutions or be on track to complete their degree by Q2 2027.


  • You will be developing hands-on test-driven software, producing well-structured quality code, conducting code reviews for peers, and engaging with technical discussions.
  • You will contribute to the design and development of large-scale high-performance APIs and services using Java (11+) with tools and frameworks like Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Maven, for use across web applications, native apps, microservices and event driven architecture.
  • You will be a member of the Fraud CIO backend guild, a space for sharing, adopting and promoting quality engineering processes through best practices, coding standards, and documentation methods.
  • You will improve engineering productivity and delivery efficiency through the practical application of AI and automation, turning these AI opportunities into usable, repeatable and controlled engineering solutions
  • You will work closely with business and technical guilds to take business requirements through to technical design, build and implementation, and release processes and participate in planning, analysis, and design sessions for new and upcoming features and initiatives.
  • You will supports the Bank’s fight against fraud by improving the technology and controls used to prevent fraudulent activity and protect customers.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

Professional Experience

  • Experience working in Fraud or have worked on Fraud driven projects or initiatives (Preferred)
  • Proven experience of TDD/BDD, able to implement and promote best practices within the team and guilds (Required)
  • Broad implementation and deployment experience with DevOps technologies such as Jenkins, Docker and Git Actions (Required)
  • Experience building APIs, Spring Boot applications, Junit test suites, Terraform and/or Ping would be beneficial (Preferred)

Education

  • Currently undertaking, or eligible to continue, a relevant technology apprenticeship or structured development programme. (Required)

Languages

  • No additional language requirement specified. (Required)
  • Knowledge of Spanish could be useful but not required. (Preferred)

Hard Skills

  • Practised knowledge of Software Development Life-Cycle practices (Required)
  • Ability to demonstrate great design and development experience of Java microservices using Spring (Required)
  • Excellent core Java 11+ skills (ideally 17+) (Required)
  • An understanding of security patterns and writing systems that act as gateways into systems (Preferred)
  • Experience of AWS & cloud system technologies (Preferred)

Soft Skills

  • Great communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams. (Required)
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm and a proactive approach to learning and problem solving. (Required)
  • Adaptability and a willingness to broaden technical, business and delivery knowledge across the Fraud domain. (Required)

Salary Range:
£45,320.00 - £67,980.00 per annum (depending on experience)

This salary range represents the expected remuneration for the role. Annual salary is based on a standard 35-hour working week. Actual salary offered will depend on skills, experience, qualifications and location.
