Software Engineer Frontend – AI

About the Role Intermedia is looking for a Software Engineer Frontend - AI to join our team. In this role, you will help to design and develop intuitive, scalable user experiences that enable users to create, configure, test, deploy, and manage AI agents. You will help make sophisticated AI capabilities accessible through thoughtful interfaces and workflows that allow users to understand how their agents are configured, how they behave, and how they interact with tools, data, and other systems. You will work closely with product managers, UX designers, backend engineers, and AI/ML engineers to turn rapidly evolving AI capabilities into polished, reliable customer experiences. This is a great opportunity for a frontend engineer who enjoys solving complex interaction challenges and wants to help define how users build and work with AI agents. While primarily remote , this role requires occasional visits to the office in Coimbra or in Aveiro. We plan to open an office in Porto in the future. This approach gives team members the flexibility to work remotely while also coming together in the office for collaboration and teamwork. What you will be doing: Develop, test and maintain backend services and APIs that support analytics, dashboards, visualisations and AI-generated insights. Build services that process, aggregate and enrich structured and unstructured data, enabling users to explore, filter, compare and understand complex datasets. Develop efficient APIs and data models for dashboards, reports and other customer-facing experiences. Support AI-powered features such as summaries, recommendations, trend identification and anomaly detection. Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate models and AI-generated outputs into customer-facing products. Work with frontend engineers, UX teams and product managers to translate customer needs into practical technical solutions and effective service interfaces. Partner with data engineers to maintain reliable data flows across source systems, analytics platforms and downstream applications. Contribute to technical discussions concerning backend services, data models, processing workflows, caching and integrations. Help maintain data quality and optimise service performance, scalability and reliability. Write readable, maintainable and testable code that follows established engineering standards. Participate in code and design reviews, sharing constructive feedback and learning from other engineers. Troubleshoot issues across backend services, data-processing workflows and frontend integrations. Implement appropriate testing, logging, monitoring and observability for production services. Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to support reliable deployment and operation. Contribute to improvements in product quality, customer experience and engineering efficiency while staying informed about relevant developments in backend engineering, AI and analytics. What youll bring to the role: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on experience developing modern frontend applications. Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript and experience with a modern frontend framework such as React or Angular. Good knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design and modern browser technologies. Experience developing interactive web applications for production environments. Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs, asynchronous services and backend systems. Understanding of frontend architecture, component design, state management, performance and maintainability. Experience building reusable components and working with component libraries or design systems. Familiarity with automated frontend testing, source control, code reviews, CI/CD and deployment practices. Understanding of web accessibility, security and browser compatibility principles. Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve technical and user-experience issues. Ability to adapt and contribute effectively as product requirements and technologies evolve. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across product, UX, frontend, backend and AI/ML teams. Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
