Position Overview We are seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer with a passion for transforming healthcare technology. In this role, you will design, build, and scale robust backend systems and data pipelines that handle critical healthcare data. You will leverage modern cloud architecture, healthcare interoperability standards, and a mix of Python and Ruby on Rails to build secure, compliant, and highly scalable solutions. Why Join Us? • Build technology that directly impacts patient care and healthcare outcomes • Work with cutting-edge healthcare interoperability technologies including FHIR, HL7, and Google Cloud Healthcare API • Collaborate with product leaders, data scientists, and engineers in a highly technical environment • Own meaningful projects and influence architectural decisions • Join a growing healthcare technology company where engineers have direct impact on product and technical strategy • Gain deep expertise in one of the fastest-growing areas of healthcare technology: interoperability and healthcare data exchange Key Responsibilities Healthcare Interoperability • Design, build, and optimize healthcare data ingestion and exchange workflows • Work extensively with FHIR resources, profiles, and APIs • Support HL7 and healthcare data integration workflows • Build and maintain integrations with EHRs, health systems, HIEs, and third-party healthcare vendors • Utilize Google Cloud Healthcare API to manage healthcare data at scale Data Pipelines & Cloud Infrastructure • Build, monitor, and optimize large-scale healthcare data pipelines • Develop workflow orchestration solutions utilizing Apache Airflow and/or Google Cloud Composer • Improve scalability, performance, observability, and reliability of healthcare data systems • Support cloud-native architecture and distributed systems design Software Engineering • Design and develop backend services using Python and Ruby on Rails • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices • Write maintainable, scalable, and testable code • Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Frontend Engineers • Work with healthcare stakeholders to understand interoperability requirements • Contribute to technical planning and product strategy discussions Required Qualifications Experience • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience • Experience building and supporting production software systems • Experience working in fast-paced technology environments Healthcare Technology • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Healthcare API • Deep experience with FHIR standards, resources, profiles, and healthcare data exchange • Experience with HL7 healthcare messaging standards • Production experience integrating with EHRs, health systems, HIEs, or healthcare technology platforms Backend Engineering • Strong Python development experience • Strong Ruby on Rails experience • Experience designing and consuming APIs • Experience building scalable backend services Cloud & Infrastructure • Experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud preferred) • Experience building and supporting data pipelines • Experience with workflow orchestration tools Preferred Qualifications • Apache Airflow or Google Cloud Composer experience • Experience with healthcare integration engines such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or similar platforms • Experience working with large-scale healthcare datasets • Familiarity with HIPAA-compliant systems and healthcare security requirements • Experience with containerized applications and cloud-native infrastructure • Startup or high-growth company experience • Experience leveraging AI tools and modern development workflows Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer who enjoys solving difficult data and integration challenges. They have real-world experience working with healthcare interoperability standards and understand how healthcare data moves between providers, health systems, and technology platforms. They are comfortable owning projects from architecture through production deployment, thrive in collaborative environments, and are excited about building technology that improves healthcare outcomes.
