Join Cincinnati Children's Information Services team as a Software Engineer I, where you will help build, support, and enhance software solutions that improve clinical, research, and business operations across the organization. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative healthcare environment. You will contribute to application development, technical support, and project execution while gaining exposure to modern software engineering practices, technologies, and Agile development methodologies.
The Software Engineer I provides application software development services typically in a defined project. Develops program logic for new applications or analyzes and modifies logic in existing applications. Codes, tests, debugs, documents and implements software applications. Analyzes requirements, tests and integrates application components. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented. May test new software code and typically works in a highly efficient (Agile) development environment.
This is an entry-level professional position which requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline. Accomplishes straightforward, relatively simple tasks using defined procedures. Receives instruction, guidance, or direction from more senior level roles.
This is a hybrid position that requires regular on-site presence at Cincinnati Children's. Candidates must be able to work both remotely and on-site as business needs require.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Structure
- Build, test, and manage simple software engineering needs.
- Follow standards, direction from more seasoned engineers.
- Comply with security standards and best practices.
- Performance maintenance and enhancements on applications/systems.
Technical & Business Skill
- Foundational knowledge Software Engineering tools, languages, practices and architectures, such as SDLC, Design Patterns, Source Code Management.
- Develop understanding of core CCHMC clinical, business and research processes to help build appropriate data solutions.
- Cultivate expertise in coding, developing, and platform management of CMS, DAM, Search and other web related systems
- Continue learning of industry tools, libraries, and practices.
Technical Support & Customer Services
- Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support.
- Adhere to change management policies and procedures.
- Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers.
- Work with vendors when necessary to ensure CCHMC investments and requests are being adequately supported and enhanced.
- Escalate support issues with urgency.
- Take 24 hour call on a staff rotation.
Project Execution
- Execute own project tasks with urgency and to a high level of quality.
- Communicate status clearly and effectively using departmental project management tools.
- Follow time-tracking and other project management requirements.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required
- No experience required
PREFERRED QAULIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science, or a related quantitative field
- Experience with modern web development technologies including React, SharePoint, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and Tailwind
- Experience and interest in working with CMS, DAM, Search and other web focused technologies
