Job Title: Software Engineering Manager

Job Description

This role leads the development of software for display systems and manages a team of software engineers through the full software lifecycle, from architecture and development to verification and certification. The Software Engineering Manager ensures that all software work products comply with process objectives for both safety-critical and non-safety-critical applications.

This hybrid role allows for approximately 50% remote work while maintaining close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development support.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle for display systems, including architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and certification activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable software standards and process objectives for safety-critical and non-safety-critical products.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans in collaboration with project engineering managers, ensuring alignment of scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Coordinate closely with systems engineering, hardware engineering, and process assurance teams to ensure integrated and compliant solutions.
  • Support customer reviews, program milestones, and certification activities by preparing technical documentation and presenting status, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Take responsibility for on-time, on-budget, and correct completion of software work packages, including tracking progress and addressing issues proactively.
  • Generate technical approaches and cost estimates for new proposals, contributing to bids and supporting business development efforts.
  • Promote and support Agile software development practices within the team, encouraging continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to engineering processes, configuration management, and quality standards throughout all software activities.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of eight years of engineering experience, preferably with a focus on software engineering in a safety-critical industry and/or aviation embedded systems.
  • Minimum of three years of software leadership or management experience, leading teams or projects.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ programming languages.
  • Strong experience with real-time embedded systems development.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and practices.
  • Experience with embedded software development for display systems or similar complex systems.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in safety-critical software development environments, such as aviation or other regulated industries.
  • Background in developing software for embedded display or avionics systems.
  • Strong ability to create technical approaches and develop accurate cost estimates for proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with systems, hardware, and process assurance teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for supporting customer reviews and program milestones.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget while meeting quality and compliance requirements.

Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, allowing approximately 50% remote work and 50% on-site presence. On-site work involves close collaboration with systems, hardware, and process assurance teams in an engineering-focused setting. The role centers on real-time embedded software development for display systems, with regular interaction across multidisciplinary teams and participation in customer reviews and certification activities. The work environment emphasizes adherence to engineering processes, quality standards, and Agile development practices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $180000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
