Software System Architect

We are seeking an experienced Satellite Software Architect to define and drive the software architecture for a complex satellite platform with one of our leading clients.

Rolling 12 month contracts - Client can be flexible with Remote - as long as successful candidate is willing to go onsite when required!

Key Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end satellite software architecture across flight and embedded systems.
• Define software standards, interfaces, and reusable architectural frameworks.
• Collaborate with software, electronics, FPGA, and systems teams to translate requirements into robust solutions.
• Lead architecture trade-offs covering performance, reliability, autonomy, and resource management.
• Support design reviews, integration, verification & validation, and operational activities.
• Drive software roadmap development and continuous improvement based on operational feedback.
• Contribute to increased platform automation and autonomous capabilities.

Essential Requirements

• Strong embedded software development experience with C and Python.
• 5+ years working in Software/Systems Architecture in Satellite environments
• Proven experience designing software architectures for complex embedded systems.
• Experience with RTOS environments (preferably FreeRTOS) and embedded Linux.
• Ability to work effectively across hardware and software domains.

Desirable Experience

• Space, aerospace, defence, robotics, automotive, or other safety-critical industries.
• Familiarity with communication standards and protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, or similar.
• Experience with software interface management, systems integration, and architecture governance.
• Exposure to automation, autonomous systems, control systems, or operational software environments.
• Experience leading architecture development across multiple products or platforms.
