Rate: £390.75 per day (Umbrella)

Summary


A Local Authority is in search of a seasoned Solicitor to join its Adult Social Care Legal Team on a temporary basis. This role is centered on Court of Protection cases, while also offering legal counsel and support to Adult Social Care services. The ideal candidate will independently manage their caseload and deliver expert legal advice on intricate adult social care issues. This position demands a proactive and autonomous lawyer capable of handling cases from start to finish, including administrative and document preparation tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities


Court of Protection


  • Oversee a caseload of Court of Protection cases from start to finish.
  • Offer legal counsel on welfare and property and affairs issues.
  • Draft applications, witness statements, pleadings, and related documents.
  • Prepare court bundles and manage all aspects of case preparation.
  • Coordinate with Counsel, the Court, Social Workers, and other relevant parties.
  • Represent the Local Authority at hearings when necessary.

Adult Social Care Advice


  • Provide legal guidance to Adult Social Care teams.
  • Advise on statutory duties and responsibilities under applicable laws.
  • Support safeguarding and complex care cases.
  • Deliver practical, solution-oriented legal advice to client departments.
  • Assist with policy interpretation and legal risk management.

Case Management


  • Independently manage a diverse and complex caseload.
  • Ensure timely progression of cases within required deadlines.
  • Maintain precise case records and documentation.
  • Conduct legal research and provide written advice.
  • Perform administrative tasks and manage documents related to casework.

Essential


Requirements

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX eligible to practice in England and Wales.
  • Extensive experience in Adult Social Care Law.
  • Proven track record in handling Court of Protection cases.
  • Capability to manage a full caseload independently.
  • Experience in providing legal advice to Local Authority client departments.
  • Proficiency in preparing court documents, applications, and bundles.
  • Strong drafting, advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Experience in performing administrative and case management duties as needed.

  • Previous experience in Local Authority legal work.

  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act matters.
