Job Description

This role focuses on creating precise technical drawings, fabrication packages, and production documentation for experiential environments, retail displays, exhibits, and custom-built installations. You will collaborate closely with fabrication teams to translate design concepts into buildable components using parametric 3D modeling software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor. The position suits a drafter with strong fabrication experience who can quickly integrate into active projects, support accelerated production schedules, and clearly communicate engineering and fabrication intent through detailed documentation while working with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models and assemblies using parametric modeling software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
• Create detailed technical drawings and shop drawings that clearly communicate engineering intent and fabrication requirements.
• Produce complete fabrication packages, including assemblies, details, and supporting documentation for custom-built projects.
• Translate design concepts into buildable components suitable for experiential environments, retail displays, exhibits, scenic builds, and architectural or custom fabrication projects.
• Support multiple active custom fabrication projects simultaneously, maintaining high accuracy and consistency in all documentation.
• Collaborate directly with fabrication and production teams to interpret production requirements quickly and incorporate feedback into drawings and models.
• Communicate engineering and fabrication concepts clearly through drawings and written documentation to support fast-turn fabrication projects.
• Manage workload independently while working remotely, meeting project deadlines and supporting accelerated production schedules.
• Take direction from production and engineering stakeholders and convert guidance into precise shop drawings and fabrication documentation.
• Provide actual shop drawing samples as part of the interview process to demonstrate capability and quality of work.
• Operate effectively in a fast-paced project environment with minimal daily oversight, remaining responsive and self-sufficient.
• Support projects that move rapidly from concept to production by updating drawings and documentation as designs evolve.

Essential Skills

• 1–5+ years of drafting experience, preferably in a fabrication-focused environment.
• Proficiency in at least one parametric 3D modeling software platform: Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
• Strong experience creating detailed technical drawings and shop drawings for fabrication.
• Ability to produce complete fabrication packages, including assemblies, details, and fabrication documentation.
• Fabrication industry experience, including support of custom-built projects.
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: custom fabrication, architectural fabrication, retail displays, experiential environments, exhibit fabrication, or scenic fabrication.
• Ability to translate design concepts into buildable components suitable for production.
• Ability to interpret production requirements quickly and incorporate them into drawings and models.
• Strong communication skills to clearly convey engineering and fabrication intent through documentation.
• Ability to work effectively within standard Eastern Time (EST) business hours.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple active projects.
• Ownership of a workstation suitable for drafting work.
• Access to required drafting software to create fabrication-ready models and documentation.
• Ability and willingness to provide shop drawing examples as part of the hiring process.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with exhibit design, scenic fabrication, retail display design, architectural fabrication, or experiential design.
• Exposure to theater set design, scenic fabrication, and experiential environments.
• Background in engineering documentation and product design.
• Experience using additional design or drafting tools such as AutoCAD.
• Broader fabrication exposure beyond traditional millwork, with an understanding of diverse materials and build methods.
• Comfort working in a project-based workload where priorities can shift quickly.
• Ability to quickly integrate into new teams and processes in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
• Interest in supporting high-profile experiential and custom fabrication projects with rapid concept-to-production cycles.
• Desire for potential long-term opportunities based on workload and performance.

Work Environment

This role operates within a fast-paced fabrication environment that follows a project-based workload and standard Eastern Time business hours, with 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM preferred. The position offers a flexible, fully remote work arrangement, providing direct access to decision makers and exposure to unique custom fabrication projects that move quickly from concept to production. You will work with parametric 3D modeling and drafting tools such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inventor, and potentially AutoCAD, creating fabrication-ready models and documentation. The environment expects you to be self-sufficient, responsive, and comfortable working with minimal daily oversight. While workstation support may be available, candidates are expected to have their own equipment and software access suitable for drafting and 3D modeling. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
