We are currently looking for a Solution Architect to join an international project supporting the development and evolution of a complex geospatial web information platform within a European Union environment.

The role will focus on the technical architecture, development, integration, and evolution of web-based platforms handling complex geospatial and risk-related data. You will combine hands-on software development with technical leadership, working across backend, frontend, databases, APIs, distributed architectures, and containerised environments.

You will work in an international and multicultural environment, collaborating with developers, technical stakeholders, data specialists, and other project stakeholders to design scalable solutions, ensure technical quality, and support the continuous evolution and operation of the platform.

If you are an experienced Solution Architect, Technical Lead, Software Architect, or Senior Full-Stack Developer with a strong background in Python, modern web technologies, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, APIs, and geospatial solutions, this is your place.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

• Lead the technical architecture and evolution of complex web-based information platforms.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python, particularly Django, Django REST Framework, FastAPI, or comparable framework.

• Design and implement data models, business logic, REST APIs, authentication, authorisation, testing, and integrations with external systems.

• Design, develop, and maintain frontend applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, React and/or Angular.

• Design and manage PostgreSQL/PostGIS data architectures supporting complex geospatial datasets.

• Define and implement data ingestion, harmonisation, quality control, versioning, metadata, and provenance workflows for heterogeneous datasets.

• Design and operate Web GIS and geospatial data services, supporting interactive maps, dashboards, APIs, and downloadable datasets.

• Coordinate with developers and stakeholders to manage technical risks, ensure code and release quality, and support the continuous improvement of the platform.

• Facilitate the transfer of operational and technical knowledge across the development and support teams.

What We Are Looking For (Requirements)

• Advanced professional experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Software Architect, Technical Lead, or Senior Full-Stack Developer.

• Strong professional experience in Python backend development, using Django, Django REST Framework, FastAPI, or comparable frameworks.

• Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript frontend development, using React and/or Angular.

• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including data modelling and database architecture.

• Experience with PostGIS or equivalent geospatial database technologies.

• Professional experience designing and implementing REST APIs and integrating heterogeneous information systems.

• Experience with geospatial data, GIS platforms, Web GIS, or geospatial services.

• Experience designing or modernising distributed and microservice-based architectures.

• Experience with containerised applications, deployment, scalability, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of authentication, authorisation, identity and access management, and role-based access control.

• Experience in technical leadership, architecture decision-making, documentation, release management, and coordination with development teams and stakeholders.

• Ability to analyse complex technical problems, identify root causes, and design scalable and integrated solutions.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical and architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
