Overview
Epitec is seeking an experienced COBOL Programmer to support and enhance critical legacy applications in both IBM Mainframe and IBM iSeries (AS/400) environments. This position focuses on production support, application enhancements, interface development, database support, and modernization initiatives for long-standing enterprise systems.
The ideal candidate will have recent, hands-on experience with COBOL development, strong legacy system support experience, and the ability to work closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities
IBM Mainframe Support (VSE / VM)
- Provide COBOL, JCL, and CICS programming support
- Maintain and enhance existing production applications
- Support applications utilizing SQL/DS, ADABAS, and VSAM databases
- Develop and support interfaces and data transfers using SFTP and FTP
- Troubleshoot production/runtime issues and partner with operations teams
- Develop and maintain technical documentation
- Generate reports and operational status updates
- Support modernization and migration initiatives
- Provide COBOL programming support for System/36 and native mode environments
- Maintain and enhance existing applications
- Develop and document interfaces with external agencies and systems
- Support DB2 databases and SQL-based applications
- Troubleshoot production issues and application failures
- Maintain program, database, and interface documentation
- Assist with technical audits, reviews, and process improvements
- Contribute to modernization efforts of legacy systems
- 3-5+ years of hands-on COBOL development experience
- Experience supporting IBM Mainframe environments (VSE, VM)
- Experience with CICS and JCL
- Strong SQL and database support experience
- Experience with DB2, IBM SQL/DS, ADABAS, VSAM, or similar legacy databases
- Experience supporting AS/400 (IBM iSeries) environments
- Experience with SFTP, FTP, and ODBC integrations
- Ability to troubleshoot production and runtime issues
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Teams, and Visio
- Experience with SharePoint integrations from Mainframe or AS/400 environments
- Experience supporting modernization, migration, or legacy application transformation projects
- Experience with Syncsort, MacKinney Systems, or similar IBM utilities
