Program Manager, Space and Supply Chain
Munich, Germany

This is a direct to device satellite company connecting standard mobile phones from space, with a satellite launched this year and another on the way. They carry voice and lighter data rather than broadband.

They are standing up a German entity to run a funded European project alongside the German space agency and their partners. The core technical team in the US remains in place, and the German operation will work hand in hand with them.

This is the first hire in Germany. Six people follow, with the project running 18 to 24 months and the plan being to keep growing from there.

What you will do

  • Own the cost, schedule, technical performance and risks across the project
  • Act as the primary interface to company leadership and the funding partner on progress, cost and risk, including formal reporting, review milestones and deliverable submission
  • Manage the technical and programmatic interfaces between three work streams: industrialisation, network orchestration and mission analysis
  • Ensure mission analysis outputs feed network orchestration, and that industrialisation decisions stay consistent with system level requirements
  • Lead supplier engagement and development, presenting requirements, scoping work, negotiating design adaptations for producibility, and working through process qualification and first articles
  • Produce the industrialisation roadmap, covering follow on qualification steps, residual technical and industrial gaps, rate ramp assumptions and the integration path into the supply chain

Who this suits

  • Someone with 10 or more years contributing technically to projects in wireless communications or spacecraft component development
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or programme manager in the wireless communications or space domains
  • Someone familiar with manufacturing processes, supplier qualification, component level test campaigns and production scaling
  • A background in aerospace is welcome but not required. Complex electromechanical or electronic assemblies in automotive or another high volume, high reliability sector is equally valuable
  • Knowledge of the processes, tools and metrics used for project monitoring, control and risk management
  • Strong written and spoken communication, critical thinking and attention to detail
  • A bachelor's degree or better in science, engineering or a relevant technical field. A master's or PhD is preferred
  • Comfortable across Linux, Windows and Mac OSX, and very capable with Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word
  • German and English. Much of the agency documentation is in German

What you get

€95,000 to €120,000. Hybrid working, with regular interaction with the US team. This is an Arbeitnehmerüberlassung engagement, initially on an 18 month contract.
