Role Description

This is a remote role for experienced/inexperienced Spanish ⇄ English Medical Interpreters providing Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) services. The interpreter will facilitate clear, accurate, and impartial communication between Spanish/English-speaking patients, families, and healthcare professionals in a variety of medical settings. Daily responsibilities include performing consecutive and, when appropriate, simultaneous interpretation, accurately conveying medical terminology, and maintaining strict confidentiality and neutrality. The role also involves managing scheduled and on-demand calls or video sessions, documenting sessions as required, and following all organizational and healthcare compliance protocols. The interpreter will participate in ongoing training, use company-provided platforms and tools, and collaborate with coordinators and team leads to ensure service quality and consistency.

Qualifications

• Prior experience or training in healthcare interpretation is a plus
• Completion of or willingness to complete professional interpreter training, which will be provided for free for inexperienced candidates.
• Strong Spanish and English Medical Interpretation and general Interpreting skills, with the ability to work effectively in OPI and VRI environments.
• Proficiency in Medical Terminology across multiple specialties and settings (e.g., primary care, emergency, mental health, surgery).
• Experience with Simultaneous Interpretation and consecutive interpreting techniques in fast-paced medical encounters.
• Previous professional experience as a medical interpreter (remote experience preferred) and familiarity with HIPAA or equivalent privacy regulations.
• Recognized medical interpreter training or certification (e.g., CMI, CHI, or equivalent regional credential) is strongly preferred.
• Excellent active listening, note-taking, memory retention, and communication skills, with a commitment to accuracy and impartiality.
• Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet professional workspace, and comfort using cloud-based interpreting platforms and video tools.
• Ability to work part-time/full-time with flexible schedules, including possible evenings, weekends, or holidays, as service needs require.
