The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Server Engineer to lead the modernization of our complex database systems. The environment has significant technical debt—millions of stored procedures, inefficient joins, and query bottlenecks. This role requires someone who understands SQL Server internals, can refactor legacy code, and is excited by the challenge of building scalable solutions that drive business transformation.

Key Responsibilities

• Performance Optimization: Diagnose and resolve complex performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and blocking issues. Implement indexing strategies and monitor query execution plans.
• Legacy Refactoring: Audit and rewrite inefficient stored procedures and complex joins. Rationalize redundant objects to ensure data integrity and maintainability.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Educate developers on best practices for writing performant T-SQL and contribute to database governance procedures.
• Technology Modernization: Opportunity to work on multi-platform environments including PostgreSQL and MongoDB, integrating cloud solutions (Azure) with on-prem systems.

The Ideal Candidate

• Technical Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server (2016+), with deep knowledge of T-SQL and query optimization.
• Problem Solving: Proven ability to reverse engineer large-scale legacy systems to identify and fix performance issues.
• Tooling: Experience with diagnostic tools like SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs.
• Communication: Strong communication skills to articulate technical solutions to stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data modeling and schema redesign.
• Knowledge of database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate).
• Exposure to CI/CD practices for database changes.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Oracle PL/SQL, or MongoDB.
