In addition to its current liver tumor indication, HistoSonics is pursuing future indications across multiple applications including kidney, pancreas, prostate, neuro, women’s health, and other significant underserved human health areas, to realize the broader potential histotripsy across multiple disease states and medical specialties.

The Sr. Clinical Applications Specialist (Sr. CAS) is responsible for developing the clinical competency, procedural confidence, and field readiness of newly hired commercial team members through immersive field-based coaching, competency development, and clinical mentorship. Serving as the primary clinical mentor during onboarding, this role bridges foundational classroom education with real-world clinical application, ensuring new hires can safely and effectively support histotripsy procedures independently.
Working closely with the Clinical Training Manager, Clinical Training Specialists, Clinical Applications Manager, and commercial leadership, the Clinical Applications Specialist executes the field immersion phase of the organization's standardized 12-week onboarding program, validates competency through structured assessments, and reinforces clinical best practices across all stages of customer engagement. This role is instrumental in building a scalable onboarding model that accelerates time-to-productivity while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, consistency, and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities (What you’ll do):
- Execute the field immersion phase of the organization's standardized 12-week onboarding program by providing hands-on procedural coaching, real-world case exposure, competency development, and performance feedback for Clinical Regional Managers, Clinical Specialists, Account Managers, and Procedural Development Specialists.
- Develop the clinical competency and field readiness of new hires through structured coaching, guided procedural experiences, and progressive skill development.
- Coach new hires on clinical workflow, physician interaction, imaging optimization, treatment planning, procedural execution, customer engagement, and post-procedure responsibilities.
- Conduct structured competency evaluations throughout the onboarding program and provide timely developmental feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain documentation of onboarding progress, competency assessments, development milestones, and required field activities within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Identify performance gaps and implement individualized development plans to ensure successful progression through onboarding.
- Recommend readiness for independent field deployment based on established competency standards and successful completion of field-based competency assessments.
- Partner with the Clinical Training team to support Foundations and Advanced Training through simulation labs, mock procedures, skills demonstrations, and clinical workshops, ensuring a seamless transition from classroom education to field application.
- Ensure standardized execution of clinical workflows, procedural best practices, customer interactions, and documentation across all onboarding cohorts.
- Partner with the Clinical Applications Manager to coordinate field immersion experiences, competency validation, and exposure to a variety of clinical environments, procedural complexities, and customer scenarios.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Training team to continuously improve onboarding curriculum, field development resources, competency tools, educational materials, and learning experiences.
- Identify recurring knowledge or skill gaps and provide actionable feedback to enhance training content, field coaching strategies, and onboarding effectiveness.
- Serve as the primary clinical mentor and trusted resource for new hires throughout the onboarding process, fostering confidence, clinical excellence, and independent performance in the field.
- Support ongoing field development initiatives by reinforcing clinical best practices, product enhancements, new indication readiness, procedural consistency, and continuous clinical development across the commercial organization.
- Travel extensively to customer sites, training events, and internal meetings to support onboarding, field development, and clinical education initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical discipline strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in clinical applications, clinical education, medical affairs, or post-market clinical support within medical devices or interventional medicine.
- Strong understanding of image-guided procedures, treatment workflow, and physician training models.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret clinical data, evaluate safety trends, and communicate complex clinical concepts clearly.
- Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills, including translating clinical evidence into field-ready guidance.
- Ability to travel (approx. 70%) to support field insight gathering, training, and Medical Affairs collaboration.
Preferred
- Experience with Class II or III medical devices.
- Experience collaborating with medical affairs, field clinical teams, and clinical workflow experts.
