Overview

The Sr. Manager, Club Technology is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, support, and continuous improvement of technology solutions that power Planet Fitness club operations. This role partners closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, franchisees, and third-party vendors to ensure club technology platforms are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with business priorities and long-term technology objectives.

The Sr. Manager, Club Technology leads a team of Technology Managers and cross-functional delivery teams across multiple programs and disciplines, providing oversight of club technology platforms, system integrations, enterprise initiatives, and technology roadmaps. This role serves as a key liaison between business and technical stakeholders, ensuring technology investments support operational priorities, franchisee needs, international growth objectives, and enterprise business goals.

This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires regular, in-person work at our Boston, MA or Hampton, NH office. Our hybrid model is M/T/W in office and TH/F are optional work-from-home. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of one of these locations. Fully remote work is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Solution Delivery

  • Leads the strategy, roadmap development, and continuous improvement of club technology platforms and solutions supporting club operations globally.
  • Partners with Product, Engineering, and business leaders to prioritize and deliver technology initiatives aligned with enterprise objectives and franchisee needs.
  • Provides oversight of club technology architecture, integrations, and platform capabilities to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.
  • Drives innovation and expansion of club technology solutions, including initiatives supporting international growth and emerging business needs.
  • Serves as a senior technology leader and subject matter expert for assigned platforms, systems, and business domains.

Portfolio & Program Leadership

  • Oversees a portfolio of complex technology programs from planning through implementation and ongoing operational support.
  • Ensures programs adhere to Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards, governance requirements, and compliance expectations.
  • Provides oversight of program roadmaps, budgets, risks, dependencies, enterprise release planning, and technical backlogs.
  • Drives executive-level communication, escalation management, prioritization decisions, and stakeholder alignment across initiatives.
  • Ensures successful delivery of technology programs within approved scope, budget, quality, and timeline expectations.

Business Partnership & Stakeholder Management

  • Partners closely with Operations to ensure club and franchisee needs are represented in technology roadmaps, solutions, and investment decisions.
  • Collaborates with Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Finance, and Operations teams to align priorities and deliver business outcomes.
  • Builds and manages relationships with franchisees, vendors, and strategic technology partners to support successful solution adoption and long-term value.
  • Serves as a senior point of contact for technology initiatives impacting club operations, member experience, and franchisee success.
  • Facilitates stakeholder engagement, requirements alignment, communication, and decision-making across multiple business and technology functions.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Leads, develops, and mentors a team of Technology Managers, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Establishes clear priorities, delivery expectations, and performance measures across the Club Technology organization.
  • Promotes continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, solution quality, and technology delivery effectiveness.
  • Supports talent planning, succession development, and organizational capability building within the Club Technology team.
  • Creates a culture of ownership, urgency, innovation, and customer-focused decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience, required
  • 8+ years of experience leading complex, cross-functional technology programs, product initiatives, or business systems implementations
  • 3+ years of experience leading managers, technical teams, or matrixed technology organizations
  • Demonstrated experience developing technology roadmaps, managing enterprise portfolios, and delivering large-scale business solutions
  • Strong knowledge of POS, back-office, payment, and enterprise operational technologies
  • Experience supporting franchise, retail, consumer, hospitality, or other multi-location business environments
  • Demonstrated success managing vendor relationships, technology partnerships, budgets, and business risks
  • Strong understanding of enterprise applications, systems integrations, SDLC methodologies, and software delivery practices
  • Exposure to international technology initiatives and global stakeholder groups preferred
  • PMP, CSM, SAFe, or similar certifications preferred
  • Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
  • Creative, progressive, thought leadership with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to build teams, motivate, guide, and mentor

The salary for MA-based and NH-based employees hired into this role will be aligned with the range below. This is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with a candidate’s professional experience, qualifications and internal equity.

Annual Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $195,000

This role is also eligible to participate in an annual corporate bonus incentive program based on company financial and personal performance.
