WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Sr. Manager, Insurance Accounting is responsible for accounting and financial reporting for Hyundai Capital America’s insurance product portfolio (Hyundai Capital Insurance) which consists of Vehicle Service Contracts, GAP coverage, Certified Pre-Owned Warranties, and other vehicle protection products. This role will supervise internal staff; work directly with the external program administrator, actuaries, third party vendors, and other internal team members to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  1. Lead insurance accounting team to complete the month-end & quarterly-end close and reporting for Hyundai Capital Insurance. Review and approve monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. Coordinate with parent companies to ensure consolidated reporting to both Hyundai Capital America and Hyundai Motor America is completed accurately and timely.

  2. Lead team as the subject matter expert to work with various departments and external program administrator to complete the annual financial statement audits for 3 insurance entities. Review annual compliance reporting and memos to ensure timely filing of annual statutory reports.

  3. Oversee the monthly cash transfers to other affiliated companies, dealer controlled reinsurance entities, and other partners. Review monthly cash forecasts and the proper level of cash required to be maintained for daily activities, and ensure maximum return is achieved on investment cash. Work with outside vendors and actuaries to ensure claims reserves, IBNR, incentive allowances, and goodwill allowances are maintained at appropriate levels and are supported by data-driven metrics for the external audit.

  4. Partner with operations, actuarial and third-party accounting teams to advise accounting implications of new insurance initiatives & programs, support product launches, business expansion for different brands, and sign off on User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for accounting. Research and prepare memorandums to document accounting treatments for insurance specific programs.

  5. Establish and maintain strong internal controls to ensure team’s compliance with Korean Sarbanes-Oxley (KSOX) and US SOX. Responsible for data integrity for insurance portfolios managed within and outside of external program administrator’s platform. Provide training and mentorship to manager and associates.

  6. Lead, mentor, and develop team members by providing direction, performance feedback, and support to ensure effective collaboration, professional growth, and achievement of organizational and personal goals.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Minimum 8 years’ related experience in insurance accounting (ASC 944).

  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience

  • Oracle ERP, OBIEE and Tableau experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • CPA preferred.

  • Strong understanding and application of U.S. GAAP (applying accounting principles to daily work) and the ability to perform research on proper accounting principle per U.S. GAAP as needed

  • Advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent time management skills set priorities to handle workloads and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Solid working knowledge in using Oracle ERP, OBIEE and Tableau.

  • Ability to successfully manage, train, develop and mentor direct reports.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to draft emails and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a team environment and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Champion strong financial controls and business practices while helping the organization deliver superior service to our dealers and customers.

  • Excellent time management skills in setting priorities to handle workloads and meet deadlines.
