Senior MongoDB Database Administrator RCX SaaS Loyalty Platform Location: Hyderabad, Telangana Job Type: Full-Time About the Role We are seeking a Senior MongoDB DBA who goes beyond traditional database administration. This role is for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a strategic, automation-first mindset. You will be responsible for the MongoDB infrastructure that powers our RCX loyalty platform, serving enterprise clients where high performance and high availability are non-negotiable. We need a professional who identifies operational patterns, builds automation to eliminate repetitive work, proactively monitors database health against business SLAs, and thinks ahead to ensure our platform can scale for future growth. Instead, identifies patterns in operational tasks and builds automation scripts so that similar work can be done with a button click the next time. Maintains a personal backlog of automation opportunities and systematically converts manual runbooks into executable scripts. Documents automation with clear usage instructions so that team members can leverage these tools independently. Proactive Performance Stewardship Actively monitors how different applications use the database. Reviews query patterns, collection access, and resource consumption regularly—not just when problems arise. Proactively identifies suboptimal usage patterns and suggests better approaches to application teams before they become performance bottlenecks. Partners with development teams during design and code review phases to ensure database access patterns are optimized from the start. SLA-Driven Monitoring & Alerting Understands the system requirements and SLAs promised to customers. Builds monitoring and alerting systems that ensure databases operate within these SLA boundaries. Creates meaningful dashboards that translate technical metrics into business-relevant health indicators. Ensures consistent monitoring coverage across all customer-facing environments—production and lower environments alike—because customers interact with all of them Strategic & Forward-Thinking Thinks ahead about platform growth. Proposes upgrades, architectural changes, and capacity improvements that will allow the platform to handle more clients and more load without breaking. Stays current with MongoDB releases and ecosystem developments. Evaluates new features and recommends adoption where they provide tangible benefits. Identifies infrastructure risks before they materialize and presents mitigation plans to leadership with clear business justification. Strong Communication & Articulation Articulates technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Produces well-structured documentation for runbooks, architectural decisions, and operational procedures. Presents recommendations and proposals with clear reasoning, supporting data, and consideration of tradeoffs. Key Responsibilities Database Architecture & Optimization Serve as the MongoDB subject matter expert, advising on architecture, schema design, and indexing strategies. Conduct advanced performance tuning including query optimization and configuration adjustments. Review application query patterns regularly and recommend optimizations proactively. Fine-tune MongoDB and server configurations for optimal performance. Monitoring & Health Management Design and implement comprehensive monitoring dashboards covering: slow queries, replication lag, node health, index usage patterns, CPU/memory utilization, lock contention, and connection metrics. Build alerting systems tied to customer SLA thresholds, ensuring proactive issue detection. Maintain consistent monitoring coverage across production and customer-facing lower environments. Automation & Operational Excellence Automate database deployment processes to support agile release cycles (builds, patches, hotfixes). Convert manual operational procedures into automated, reusable scripts. Maintain a library of automation tools with clear documentation for team use. High Availability & Disaster Recovery Design and implement HA solutions and DR plans with clear RTO/RPO targets. Implement and continuously improve backup and recovery strategies. Conduct periodic DR drills and maintain up-to-date recovery runbooks. Security & Compliance Implement database hardening and security best practices. Ensure compliance with security policies and audit requirements. Collaboration & Planning Work closely with application teams during design and release cycles to assess database impact. Evaluate, plan, and execute database upgrades with thorough risk assessment. Present infrastructure initiatives and proposals to technical and business leadership. Required Skills & Experience 6+ years of DBA experience with 3+ years hands-on MongoDB experience in production environments. Demonstrated ability to build automation for database operations (scripting, tooling, self-service). Strong scripting skills in Unix/Shell and Python for automation and tooling. Proven ability to write efficient queries and optimize database performance proactively. Experience building and managing monitoring/alerting systems for database infrastructure. Solid understanding of enterprise application architecture and how databases integrate with application layers. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to document clearly and present to stakeholders. Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-based database deployments Technical knowledge of Linux and Windows platforms. Desired Skills Experience with MongoDB Atlas or other managed MongoDB services. Expertise in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
