Opportunity Overview

Our client is is one of the fastest-scaling remittance fintechs in the world — already moving billions of dollars across emerging markets, with LatAm, Africa, and South Asia as live corridors and more launching fast. Their engineering team is small, senior, and genuinely high-ownership — this is not a cog-in-the-machine seat.

Role Description

You'll own backend problems end-to-end on our client’s core payments platform — the infrastructure that moves real money for real people across the world. Design, build, ship, monitor, and iterate on services where downtime is not a theoretical concern. You'll work alongside product and engineering in a tight cross-functional loop, own production through on-call, and leave the codebase and infrastructure meaningfully better than you found them.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Ownership – Own high-impact backend problems through design, build, ship, monitor, and iterate cycles.
• Core Platform Services – Build and maintain services in the core payments platform with high availability and correctness.
• Outcome Delivery – Deliver measurable wins on latency, reliability, cost, and throughput, communicated clearly in numbers.
• Production Operations – Run on-call, incident response, post-mortems, and ship preventative fixes for long-term stability.
• Infrastructure & CI/CD – Improve AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines using Terraform and strong engineering practices.
• Engineering Quality – Raise the bar through reviews, testing, documentation, and pragmatic technical leadership across the team.
• Cross-Functional Partnership – Collaborate with product and engineering partners to translate business needs into scalable, robust solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Backend Experience – 5–10 years post-graduation in backend engineering, Junior profiles will not be considered.
• Backend Languages – Kotlin or Java preferred; strong TypeScript also considered; you must be confident in at least one.
• Cloud & Infra – Hands-on AWS, Terraform, and PostgreSQL are non-negotiable — these aren't "familiarity" requirements.
• Coding Fundamentals – High-quality, production-grade code; strong software design and architecture across complex distributed systems.

Bonus Qualifications

• Fintech DNA – Prior experience in a fast-growth fintech, payments, or remittance environment is a genuine advantage.
• On-Call Depth – You've owned production incidents end-to-end and written the post-mortem, not just escalated.
