The Sr. Team Member Relations Specialist plays a vital role in supporting team members and leaders across the country — helping Mercury remain a place where people feel heard, respected, and supported every single day.
In this role, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to People Business Partners and business leaders, bringing expertise, empathy, and a forward-thinking mindset to everything you do.
You will bring sound judgment, empathy, candor, and a strong understanding of employment law to help leaders make clear, well-supported decisions. You will also help Mercury learn from patterns by turning insights into practical guidance, policy improvements, and better leader practices, leveraging AI where appropriate, to improve the quality and speed of the work.
You'll operate with a high degree of independence, collaborate with legal counsel and have the opportunity to shape how we work — from investigations to policy development and beyond.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
$110,468 to $135,016 (NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$100,426 to $122,742 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$90,383 to $110,468 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
In CA: Typical hiring range is $110,468 to $135,016.
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Team Member Relations
- You'll provide consultation to People Business Partners and business leaders to help navigate team member relations matters, such as performance concerns, conduct issues, policy interpretation, and interpersonal conflicts.
- You’ll surface difficult issues directly, distinguish facts from assumptions, and help stakeholders understand the risks, options, trade-offs, and recommended next steps.
- You’ll leverage AI for responsible and appropriate role-playing to support and help leaders with practical conversations, expectations, and follow-through, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and neutrality.
Investigations
- You'll investigate team member concerns with care and thoroughness — documenting findings and delivering clear, well-reasoned conclusions to People Business Partners and business leaders at all levels.
- You'll also collaborate with your leader and legal counsel on agency claims and litigation matters, bringing your expertise and data analysis skills to the table.
- You’ll create reusable knowledge from investigations by documenting key patterns, lessons, and guidance without compromising confidentiality.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Technology Use
- You'll leverage team member relations data to generate strategic workforce insights and leading indicators, diagnose emerging trends and root causes quickly, and proactively implement solutions that mitigate risk and improve organizational health.
- You’ll convert insights into practical actions such as targeted leader coaching, manager resources, policy updates, process changes, or focused listening.
- You’ll use approved technology and AI tools in meaningful ways to support execution of your work from organizing information, conducting first-pass research, identifying patterns, drafting materials, and reducing routine administrative work where appropriate and in line with confidentiality guidelines.
Legal Compliance
- You'll keep Mercury ahead of the curve by staying current on State and Federal employment laws. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance postings, issuing required notices and acknowledgments, responding to subpoenas for records, liaising with the unemployment insurance claims vendor, coordinating with internal and external auditors, and collaborating with legal counsel.
Policy Development
- You'll bring creativity and a future-of-work mindset to maintain live policies — writing policies that are clear, relevant, and built for the workforce of tomorrow.
- You’ll continuously bring insights, trends, lessons learned, and best practices from cases and investigations to evolve and make policies relevant and future proof.
- You’ll help the team build visible, reusable knowledge by documenting decisions, templates, guidance, and lessons learned in accessible locations.
Other duties may be assigned as business needs evolve.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Human Resources or a related field.
Licenses & Certifications
- PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification — preferred
- AWI-CH (Association of Workplace Investigators Certificate Holder) — preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in team member relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong value realization and data-driven orientation, with a proven track record of resolving cases and investigations with a clear focus on the problem and intended outcome
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations, analyzing data, and preparing oral and written reports
- Strong working knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and policies in a corporate setting
- Ability to Interpret and apply policies to given situations
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects under tight deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities
- Effective consultation, active listening, conflict resolution, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated strong ethics, leadership, and ability to exercise strict confidentiality
- Ability to integrate work across business units and engage effectively at all organizational levels
- Strong judgment and discretion, including the ability to surface difficult issues directly while remaining fair, respectful, and grounded in facts
- Comfort using approved AI and digital tools to improve productivity and work quality, with demonstrated understanding that people remain accountable for reviewing, refining, and approving the output
- General understanding of the Property & Casualty insurance industry preferred
