How you’ll make an impact:

The Staff Accountant - Accounts Payable is a hybrid role with flexibility to work both remotely and onsite at our St Paul, Minnesota facility, reporting to the Accounting Manager. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in the operation of the facility and the greater MRP corporate accounting team having primary responsibilities in accounts payable (AP) and general accounting support as needed.

A Day in the Life:

  • Accounts Payable:
    • Receive, review, code, and process invoices from vendors accurately and promptly, ensuring appropriate approvals are received.
    • Collaborate closely with purchasing and receiving departments to ensure complete, timely, and accurate 3-way matching of purchase orders, receipts, and invoices, working together to resolve any discrepancies.
    • Prepare and schedule payments to vendors via check, ACH, wire transfer, or other methods as required.
    • Maintain vendor accounts, including verifying vendor information, updating records, and resolving any discrepancies.
    • Drive automation initiatives by leveraging AI-powered tools, OCR technology, and other workflows to streamline invoice processing and approval cycles.
    • Identify and implement outsourcing opportunities for transactional tasks to improve efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • General Accounting Support:
    • Communicate effectively with vendors regarding payment status, inquiries, and discrepancies.
    • Support month-end closing activities, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations related to accounts payable, accruals, bank reconciliations, prepaids, goodwill, and intangible assets.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements.
    • Support external audit and tax preparation processes by providing documentation and answering inquiries.
    • Assist with other special projects and/or ad hoc tasks as assigned.

What we’re looking for:

Basic Requirements

  • Previous general accounting experience, including accounts payable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software and other Microsoft Office 365 products (i.e., Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for success in this role.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to proactively identify and resolve discrepancies and issues.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal business partners, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and adhere to ethical standards in all financial activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
