We are currently looking for a Staff Accountant, Client Accounting to support the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of venture-backed startup clients. This is a full-time, hands-on, client-facing role within a professional services firm, supporting Controllers, Accounting Managers, and senior accountants across a range of transactional accounting and close-related workflows. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Transactional Accounting · Own day-to-day accounts payable workflow across multiple client accounts, including reviewing, coding, and processing vendor invoices, and preparing ACH, check, and card payments for approval. · Support accounts receivable processes across assigned clients, including invoicing, customer follow-up, and cash application, as needed. · Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations. · Prepare and post journal entries and supporting schedules under the review of a senior accountant, Accounting Manager, or Controller. Close Support · Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple client entities, including preparing workpapers and supporting schedules. · Maintain vendor and customer records, W-9s, 1099 tracking, and consistency between subledgers (AP, AR, payroll, billing) and QuickBooks Online. · Review AP and AR aging and proactively flag overdue items, exceptions, or risks. Client and Vendor Communication · Communicate professionally and directly with clients and vendors on routine accounting matters. · Escalate non-routine issues, disputes, or coding questions to the appropriate Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accountant. Systems, Process, and Documentation · Maintain organized, audit-ready support for transactions and reconciliations. · Collaborate with the broader client accounting team on process consistency and workflow improvement. · Apply AI, automation, and modern workflow tools to improve efficiency and documentation quality. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS · 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, or general ledger transaction processing. · Strong QuickBooks Online experience. This is a hard requirement. · Experience with Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, or similar AP/spend management tools. · Ability to work independently, stay organized, manage recurring workflows, context switch effectively across clients, and know when to escalate. · Strong written and verbal English and professional communication skills. · Experience handling confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion. · Prior experience in an outsourced accounting, CAS, bookkeeping, or similar client-service environment. · Experience supporting multiple client accounts simultaneously. · Experience across the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, reconciliations, and journal entries, rather than AP alone. · Experience supporting venture-backed startups or other fast-moving businesses. · Familiarity with 1099 tracking, year-end preparation, or filing support. · Exposure to deeptech, hardtech, applied AI, or other technically complex industries is a plus
