Your New Role…
The Staff Accountant, HBO Max Content will be a member of the Streaming Accounting Controllership team based in Mexico City, Mexico. The Accounting Controllership Team is responsible for monthly and quarterly US GAAP reporting, review of account reconciliations and support for global financial reporting processes. Everyday responsibilities include ensuring compliance during audits, as well as with SEC and SOX guidelines. The Team closely collaborates with other relevant stakeholders, including Business Affairs, Finance, Legal, Operations, Tax, as well as external service providers. The Staff Accountant, HBO Max Content is essential in supporting the Streaming Segment Content Accounting for HBO Max. This individual will be responsible for month-end and quarterly activities related to the content lifecycle. This role is critical to ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records and ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies.
Your Role Accountabilities:
Staff Accountant, Intercompany Content Accounting
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage intercompany accounting entries and related month-end close activities for content transactions across segments and legal entities.
- Prepare and maintain the by-title intercompany schedules (carve-out analyses) related to content rights recognition and licensing arrangements.
- Investigate intercompany-pairing balance discrepancies, identify root causes, and recommend action plans to resolve outstanding differences.
- Partner with domestic and international stakeholders to facilitate timely settlement and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
- Track and maintain documentation for global content arrangements, ensuring accounting treatment is consistent with company policies and applicable accounting guidance.
- Support content accounting teams with intercompany reconciliations, analysis, and issue resolution.
- Analyze complex transaction flows and recommend process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.
- Collaborate with finance, accounting, tax, legal, and operational teams to understand new business arrangements and assess accounting implications.
- Prepare supporting schedules, account analyses, and management reporting related to intercompany activity.
- Contribute to process optimization initiatives and help establish best practices for intercompany content accounting activities.

Qualifications & Experience…
- BS/BA in Accounting from an accredited college or university
- Knowledge of US GAAP
- Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley and experience with SOX controls
- Strong understanding of financial systems with ability to learn and master new system tools
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Capacity to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while balancing competing deliverables
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional team members at all levels
- Willingness to learn and accept new or unfamiliar tasks
Preferences…
- Big 4 accounting firm experience or experience at a publicly traded company
- Film and media / entertainment accounting experience
- Strong business acumen working in a multinational company
- SAP S/4 HANA knowledge is a plus
- Experience with Blackline is a plus
- Experience in automating manual processes
- Active CPA license or local equivalent, or a path towards license attainment
