Staff Clinical Insights Data Systems Engineer

Work Flexibility: Hybrid or Onsite

Stryker is seeking a Staff Clinical Insights Data Systems Engineer to support our Peripheral Vascular division in Irvine, CA to serve as the technical owner and architect of the Clinical Insights data ecosystem, enabling evidence generation across clinical trials, real-world data, and healthcare systems. This role will design and maintain scalable data platforms, pipelines, and integrations that transform complex clinical and commercial data into actionable insights that support research, publications, physician education, clinical strategy, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Workplace Flexibility: This is a hybrid role requiring the candidate to be within commuting distance to Irvine, CA. The work schedule is structured to support flexibility, with in-office presence required 3 days/week and remote work available the rest of the week. To qualify, candidates must be able to commute to the facility as needed.

What you will do

• Own and serve as the primary architect for the enterprise clinical data platform, ensuring data availability, integrity, security, governance, and scalability across the ecosystem.
• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize data lakes, pipelines, data models, and integrations that support clinical research, evidence generation, and business decision-making.
• Integrate and harmonize data from clinical trial systems (EDC, CTMS), commercial platforms, quality and compliance systems, supply chain, device utilization, and enterprise applications.
• Develop and enhance connections to internal collaboration and knowledge management platforms, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and other organizational data sources.
• Lead the implementation of new data pipelines and platform enhancements to support clinical studies, strategic initiatives, and evolving business needs.
• Evaluate and implement modern data engineering technologies, automation capabilities, advanced analytics, self-service reporting, and emerging AI-driven solutions.
• Establish and maintain data architecture standards, governance frameworks, validation processes, derived datasets, and technical documentation to ensure high-quality, trusted data assets.
• Partner with Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Commercial, and IT teams to drive enterprise data strategy, provide technical leadership, and mentor technical contributors.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Biomedical Informatics, Engineering, or a related technical field, and a minimum of 4 years of experience in data engineering, data systems, data architecture, or a related technical discipline; or 6 years of equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise data platforms, data pipelines, and ETL/ELT workflows in production environments.
• Experience integrating and managing data from diverse sources, including APIs, databases, file-based systems, SaaS applications, and other internal and external data repositories.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, and related technologies. Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or similar platforms preferred.
• Understanding of data governance, data quality, privacy requirements, and data management practices within regulated or highly controlled environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and programming languages such as Python for data engineering, automation, and data integration solutions.
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, testing, automation, source control, and other modern software development and operational best practices.
• Experience within the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences industries.
• Experience working with clinical research data, clinical systems, and electronic data workflows, including EDC, CTMS, or related platforms; and/or with healthcare datasets, patient-level data, real-world evidence (RWE), or related healthcare analytics programs.
• Exposure to generative AI technologies and the implementation of enterprise AI solutions leveraging organizational data assets.

Work Flexibility

• Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.

• Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.

• Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.

• Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
