About Chartis The challenges facing US healthcare are longstanding and all too familiar. We are Chartis, and we believe in better. We work with more than 1,900 organizations annually to develop and activate transformative strategies, operating models, and organizational enterprises that make US healthcare more affordable, accessible, safe, and human. With more than 1,450 professionals, we help providers, payers, technology innovators, retail companies, and investors create and embrace solutions that tangibly and materially reshape healthcare for the better. Our family of brands—Chartis, Jarrard, Greeley, and HealthScape Advisors—is 100% focused on healthcare and each has a longstanding commitment to helping transform healthcare in big and small ways. Believe in better. Chartis has offices in Boston, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and Nashville. Remote work is allowed. Role Overview This is an opportunity to help shape the products and experiences that support the work of Chartis from the ground up. As Staff Product Designer, you will design end-to-end experiences for the tools and platforms our teams rely on, partnering closely with product managers and engineering to translate complex problems into interfaces that are clear, efficient, and trustworthy. Our users are sophisticated. They work in high-stakes, time-pressured environments with deep analytical rigor and keen attention to detail. We need a designer who finds that reality energizing, someone who brings the same rigor, curiosity, and care to every product they touch, whatever the audience. We are a brand new product team, which means there’s lots of room to make a big impact and grow. You will take ownership of your design work from discovery through delivery and contribute to new standards and design systems that help our products and team scale. You will report to the design manager and work closely with product managers, engineers, and subject matter experts across Chartis’ to build impactful products and advocate for design excellence at all stages of the product lifecycle. Responsibilities Product and UX/UI Design Design products and features end to end, from initial concept through launch and ongoing improvement, for tools that directly impact Chartis consulting teams and their clients. Take messy, real-world workflows and turn them into interfaces that are clear, efficient, and trustworthy, no matter how complicated the systems behind them are. Design for AI-assisted workflows, including surfaces where users interpret model outputs, review recommendations, and collaborate alongside AI and human teammates to carry out their consulting work. Conduct user research with stakeholders to ground design decisions in real work context. Work with product managers and engineers to understand how AI models actually behave, including where it falls short, so you can design interfaces that set the right expectations and build trust. Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure design intent carries through implementation, and advocate for quality and the best user experience when tradeoffs are proposed. Design Systems and Standards Contribute to and help maintain a design system that serves multiple products and can evolve as the product landscape changes. Be the design expert in how we build and use design systems for humans and machine. Improve documentation, implementation, and lead cross-functional alignment when you find gaps. Strategic Contribution Drive clarity on what needs to be designed and why, partnering closely with product managers so the team understands the problem and user needs before jumping into solutions. Help drive product strategy and roadmap decisions, bringing a clear, evidence-based user perspective and pushing for the right priorities, not just responding to them. Turn research, prototypes, and design rationale into narratives and visuals that make the impact of the work legible to non-designers, building the buy-in needed to move decisions forward. Lead design reviews, document decisions clearly, and help raise the bar for product and user experience. Qualifications and Desired Skills 7+ years: of product design experience across web and/or mobile products, especially in complex domains (e.g. enterprise software, B2B, professional services, or healthcare is a plus) Strong portfolio: that shows high visual and interaction craft with the ability to make complex information environments feel navigable and trustworthy. It should show measurable outcomes: how you spotted an opportunity, tested ideas, accommodated constraints, and improved business outcomes, not just how the final screens look. Designing with AI: recent, hands-on experience designing and shipping at least one AI-powered feature, with ability to explain key decisions and tradeoffs. Active use of AI tools in your own design workflow and comfort building interactive prototypes. Ownership of ambiguity: the ability to create clarity and make progress on complex, shifting problems without waiting for a fully-scoped brief or explicit direction, owning the work from framing through launch and iteration. Design systems experience: comfort building and contributing to design systems, creating documentation for scalable components, patterns, and interaction models. Technical fluency: enough understanding of how AI systems work, including their behavior, limitations, and how they're evaluated, to have real conversations with PMs and engineers and turn that understanding into practical, trustworthy designs. Research instincts: experience planning and conducting research with end users in fast-moving environments, from early exploratory research through usability testing. Strong communication and collaboration : ability to explain decisions, receive and provide constructive feedback, and build alignment across teams. Preferred Experience Experience at early startups and/or small product teams Data visualization: experience designing dashboards, analytical tools, or reporting surfaces for data-literate users is a plus. 0-to-1 design systems: you’ve built entire design systems and component libraries from scratch, not just worked within one that already existed. Accessibility knowledge: of WCAG accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, and the kinds of regulatory and compliance considerations (such as HIPAA) that shape design decisions in regulated industries. Salary range: $155,000-$220,000 plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs. In addition, Chartis offers several benefits including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, disability insurance, life insurance, 401(k) match, paid time off, wellness stipend, and additional voluntary benefits. At Chartis, we pride ourselves on having a diverse workforce. We value and celebrate the uniqueness of individuals and the different perspectives they provide. We offer equal opportunity employment regardless of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability status, age, marital status, or protected veteran status.
