Staff Software Engineer – Remote (MH)

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with 8+ years of experience to own and scale the critical backend systems that power client launches and member access at the client organization. This is a high-leverage IC leadership role for someone with a high degree of independence who can lead complex projects end-to-end while collaborating with a senior staff engineer on an ambitious 18-month to 2-year roadmap. This is a role for someone with deep architectural knowledge who can take a system from its current scale to 50x, partnering closely with product and internal operations stakeholders. A strong product sense and the ability to flush out requirements, edge cases, and use cases cross-functionally is essential. We expect meaningful contributions within your first 30 days. Responsibilities

• Independently owning and executing large-scale engineering projects across eligibility processing, identity, and client configuration systems
• Designing and building scalable backend architectures to support 50x data growth across Modern Health's platform
• Partnering closely with product managers and internal operations teams to define requirements, use cases, and edge cases for complex initiatives
• Collaborating with a senior staff engineer to sequence and deliver against a multi-year growth engineering roadmap
• Mentoring and guiding more junior engineers on the team through technical leadership and code collaboration
• 8 - 15 years of experience in backend software engineering, with focus on Python (Django/Flask); staff-leveling
• Led complex, full-stack projects end-to-end independently

Hard skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred, but
• Open to bootcamps and self-taught

SALARY BANDS TIERS:

• Comp: $137K–$203K base (for Tier 1) + equity.
• Remote work eligible within the US, excluding Hawaii.
• o Zone 1 Base Pay: $161,000 - $203,000 USD (NY & San Fran Bay)
• o Zone 2 Base Pay: $161,000 - $203,000 USD (Other CA & Seattle, WA)
• o Zone 3 Base Pay: $145,000 - $183,000 USD (Other Washington State, WDC, Austin, TX, CT, IL, MA, NH, OR, RI & VT
• o Zone 4 Base Pay: $137,000 - $172,000 USD –
