Staff Systems Engineer - LV Battery

Work Classification:

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.

The Role:

We are seeking a Staff Systems Engineer specializing in Low Voltage (LV) Batteries to join our team at General Motors Holdings LLC. This role will be crucial in ensuring the regulatory compliance, reliability, and overall system engineering integrity of our LV battery systems.

What You'll Do:

• Lead the system engineering activities for LV battery management systems, from concept to production.
• Ensure all LV battery systems and software implementations comply with relevant national and international regulatory standards and internal GM requirements.
• Develop and execute reliability engineering plans for LV battery systems, including FMEAs, DVP&Rs, and validation testing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, validation, manufacturing, and suppliers to integrate LV battery systems effectively.
• Analyze field data and warranty claims to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions for LV battery performance.
• Define and document system requirements, specifications, and interface controls for LV battery systems.
• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions, providing expert guidance on LV battery architecture and performance.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to LV battery systems.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong focus on automotive battery systems, particularly low voltage applications.
• Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance processes and standards relevant to automotive electrical systems (e.g., ISO 26262, UN ECE R100).
• Proven expertise in reliability engineering principles and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, FTA, HALT/HASS testing).
• Strong understanding of battery chemistry, cell technologies, and battery management systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills):

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong focus on automotive battery systems, particularly low voltage applications.

• Prior experience launching low voltage battery systems.

Company Vehicle:

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, though which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.

Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
