Position Summary The Tax Staff Accountant functions well in a dynamic, growth-oriented professional services environment and will assist the tax team with the preparation of individual and entity tax returns, tax projections, tax research, and client service activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an emerging tax professional to develop technical tax expertise, gain exposure to high-net-worth and closely held business clients, and grow within a collaborative CPA firm environment. Essential Functions of the Position Must Have Qualities Time Management Exceptional Organization Skills Strong Communication skills Responsiveness to time-sensitive items Attention to Detail Focus on client Ability to work independently Team Collaboration Strong Leadership skills Transparency Strong Work Ethic Being professional and respectful to others Positive Attitude Expected Deliverables Prepare individual, partnership, corporate, and fiduciary tax returns with supervision Assist with tax projections, tax planning, and tax research projects Develop knowledge of firm processes, tax software, and workflow systems Communicate with clients and internal teams regarding tax documentation and information requests Participate in process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives Utilize AI and emerging technologies to improve productivity and workflow efficiency Develop professionally through training, mentorship, and continuing education Technical Skills Prepare federal and state tax returns for: Individuals (1040) Partnerships (1065) S Corporations (1120-S) Corporations (1120) Trust and Fiduciary Entities Software Exposure CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, GoSystem, or similar tax software Microsoft Excel including: Formulas Pivot Tables Data Analysis Reconciliations Tax Research Platforms AI tools such as: Chat GPT Claude Microsoft CoPilot Other workflow and automation and AI tools Desired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting - required CPA or EA designation – preferred 1-3 years of tax preparation experience within a CPA firm preferred Understanding of accounting and tax fundamentals Exposure to tax preparation software and Excel Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking skills Positive attitude and willingness to learn Behavioral Competencies Successful candidates will demonstrate: Strong work ethic and accountability Coachability and willingness to learn Professionalism and responsiveness Team-oriented mindset Ability to work independently in a remote environment Strong communication and follow-through Intellectual curiosity and growth mindset Ability to adapt in an evolving and technology-forward environment What Success Looks Like (12–18 Months) A successful Tax Staff Accountant will: Prepare accurate tax returns efficiently and on time Develop strong technical tax knowledge Build trusted relationships with clients and internal teams Demonstrate increasing ownership and accountability Improve workflow efficiency through organization and technology utilization Successfully manage busy season deadlines Progress toward CPA licensure and long-term career development Compensation & Benefits Talley LLP offers competitive compensation, bonus opportunities, comprehensive benefits, ongoing professional development, CPA support, mentorship, and long-term career growth opportunities within a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
