Stock Availability Reply Assistant
Customer Service · Order Enquiries · Remote · Full-time or part-time
£27.00–£29.00 per hour
Answer only from a current stock check
A customer may ask whether an item can be ordered or whether a product shown online is currently available. The Stock Availability Reply Assistant checks the information the company has made available and sends a clear written response.
This is a remote customer service role connected to an online stock or order system. You would not reserve an item, guarantee a future delivery or decide a substitute product unless those actions are specifically authorised in the employer’s process.
Stock information can change. A reply based on yesterday’s screenshot may be wrong even if it was accurate when captured. You would check the current record at the time of the enquiry, identify the particular item and any relevant variation, and use approved wording to explain what the system shows. If the information is unavailable or the system flags a discrepancy, you would pass the question to the stock team rather than infer an answer from a product page.
Item identity matters
A customer’s message may use a general product name, while the company lists several sizes or versions. You would ask which one they mean or use a supplied reference to find the correct entry. An online listing that says ‘available’ may refer to a different variation. You should avoid telling someone a product is in stock without checking the exact item the customer wants. A useful answer may include the current status and the approved next step for placing an order, without claiming the item will remain available indefinitely.
This is a narrow task with a real effect on customer trust. The next person should be able to find which item you checked and when. If the customer asks about a different item in a later reply, record that separately rather than editing the earlier answer to make it appear to cover both. If an order already exists, the enquiry may belong to order status rather than availability; the team will show you how to route it.
Cases to clarify instead of answering from a guess
- The customer’s description could fit more than one size or version.
- The product page and stock system show different information.
- The person asks for a future arrival date not confirmed by the team.
- The question concerns an existing order rather than stock for a new purchase.
Each handoff should identify the item and the source of uncertainty. You can remain helpful without treating an uncertain number on a screen as a firm customer promise.
Practical responsibilities:
- Read the customer’s item description and look for a specific reference.
- Check the relevant product variation in the current online system.
- Explain the displayed availability using the employer’s approved language.
- Ask a focused question when the item is ambiguous.
- Note the item and time of the check in the enquiry record.
- Refer a conflicting listing or system status to the stock colleague.
- Direct a reservation, substitute or fulfilment decision to the proper team.
- Keep a later customer reply linked to the original question.
Previous retail or customer service experience is useful but not required. Applicants with little experience are welcome if they can compare an item description with a record, communicate plainly and avoid a promise the system does not support. The employer will train you on its stock categories and online tools. Basic computer use and a habit of checking details are more important than knowledge of a particular product line in advance.
The role includes simple office administration: recording a reference, maintaining the status of an enquiry and giving a colleague a usable handoff. A home office area suited to focused written work can help. The opening is remote and may be full-time or part-time, at £27.00–£29.00 per hour. The hiring team can describe the products and availability process during selection.
Applying
Your CV can show experience answering a product question, checking a source before replying or helping a person find a specific item. Relevant examples may come from a different sector or from study.
No previous stock-system title is needed; the employer teaches its own tools. If you’re selected for the next step, you may be asked to complete an application on the hiring company’s website. A clear account of what you actually checked and communicated in previous work is useful.
