Description

At Ledgebrook, we’re building a next-generation insurance infrastructure - fast, smart, and scalable - and are looking for a Director of Actuarial Services to join Stonehaven Specialty Insurance Company, Ledgebrook’s new third-party hybrid fronting carrier.

This role reports to the Chief Risk Officer and shifts the traditional actuarial mandate from end-to-end pricing/reserving to validating and relying on third-party bordereaux data, reserving gross/ceded/net independently, and reserving/capitalizing the re-assumed tail above treaty caps to full-carrier standards.

About the Role

Stonehaven is seeking a Director of Actuarial Services to validate third-party bordereaux data, establish loss-development assumptions before each program onboards, reserve gross/ceded/net independently, and support the Reserve Committee and the annual statement of opinion. The successful candidate will bring deep P&C actuarial reserving experience and direct experience with bordereaux-based or third-party-sourced data.

What You'll Do:

  • Validate third-party/bordereaux data before relying on it for analysis or financial reconciliation, in coordination with Underwriting, Reinsurance, Finance, and IT.
  • Establish ELR and expected development patterns before each program onboards; run quarterly actual-vs-expected against original assumptions.
  • Reserve gross, ceded, and net independently; evaluate and reserve the re-assumed tail above treaty caps.
  • Build the actuarial “toolbox” (ISO, RAA, S&P Schedule P) for loss development, trend, and PY/AY/AQ adjustments on thin or ramping program data.
  • Oversee DUA pricing and monitor actual-vs-expected results by program; produce the quarterly program “report card.”
  • Support the Reserve Committee in a lead technical and advisory capacity.

About you

We love working with people who are eager to learn constantly and genuinely excited about the chaotic, rewarding process of building a company from the ground up.

You’ll be a great fit if you bring:

  • A Strong Moral Compass: You believe in doing the right thing, period. We have a strict zero-tolerance policy for toxic behaviors.
  • Customer-First Empathy: You are passionate about delivering an exceptional experience to everyone you work with, both inside and outside the company.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: You naturally question the status quo and love finding innovative ways to solve problems.
  • A Growth Mindset: You possess a hunger for continuous learning and want to constantly expand your skillset.
  • Urgency & Prioritization: You can pivot quickly and balance the need to get things right with the speed of getting them done right now.
  • A Solution-Oriented Outlook: When things go wrong, you don't look for blame—you immediately focus on how to fix it.
  • Transparent Communication: You value honesty, clarity, and open feedback.
  • Team-First Energy: You want to win together as a high-performing team and actively build connections across our remote locations.

Requirements

Must Haves:

  • Experience reserving re-assumed/tail exposure above treaty caps, not only quota-share slices.
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS).

Nice to Haves:

  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) is preferred.
  • Prior fronting-carrier or program-actuarial experience specifically.
