Why this job matters:

Lead enterprise editorial strategy and content development for consumer-facing and stakeholder communications across traditional and digital channels. Translate business priorities into clear, compliant, audience-centered content that supports growth, retention, member experience, brand trust, digital effectiveness, and operational efficiency. Provide strategic content leadership for assigned portfolios; establish editorial standards and governance; oversee research, legal reviews, interviews, and create scripts for video production. Ensure content is accurate, accessible, consistent with brand voice and tone, and aligned to the audience, channel, and business objective.

What you will do:

  • Own the content strategy and editorial plan for assigned enterprise portfolios, aligning messaging to business priorities, audience needs, channel requirements, and measurable engagement goals.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to develop clear, compliant communications that support growth, retention, member understanding, brand trust, affordability, care navigation, and member experience.
  • Lead development of campaign, web, publication, product, sales enablement, member, employer, broker, and corporate storytelling content, including audio and video, as applicable to the assigned portfolio.
  • Establish and apply brand voice, tone, editorial, accessibility, and content governance standards; ensure consistency across channels and reuse approved messaging to reduce duplication and rework.
  • Lead web content strategy and digital content effectiveness, including information architecture, user experience, accessibility, and search-oriented content practices, in partnership with Digital and Web teams.
  • Write, edit, proofread, and approve content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, brand alignment, audience relevance, and legal, regulatory, or compliance requirements; provide reciprocal proofing support across the content team.
  • Lead complex editorial projects involving graphic designers, communications managers, subject matter experts, Legal, Compliance, Product, Sales, Clinical, Care Management, Digital, Web, executive stakeholders, agencies, and other partners.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Seven or more years of experience in copywriting or editorial services or developing corporate communications or marketing communications
  • Knowledge of content strategy, copywriting, editing, research, content governance, accessibility, digital user experience, advertising, change management, and health-related communications
  • Knowledge of corporate storytelling and communications for external audiences, including members, employers, brokers, community partners, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to convert business strategy into action-oriented objectives and measurable results
  • Ability to build consensus and provide strategic counsel across business, creative, digital, legal, compliance, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to apply audience, channel, accessibility, regulatory, and brand requirements too high-volume, high-impact content
  • Knowledge of internal/employee communications
  • Understanding of layout and design process
  • Strong business acumen and political savvy
  • Ability to lead and manage complex, concurrent projects with distinct stakeholders, review cycles, approval requirements, and business outcomes
  • Ability to think creatively and to drive innovation·
  • Ability to collaborate while dealing with complex situations
  • Ability to motivate, lead and inspire a diverse group to a common goal/solution with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong negotiating, influencing, and consensus-building skills
  • Ability to mentor, coach and provide guidance to others

Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:

  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
