In this role, you’ll build your career as a junior structural engineer while contributing to transportation structure projects primarily throughout the Mid-Atlantic, with opportunities to support work along the entire East Coast. You’ll be part of diverse, multidisciplinary project teams and work alongside award-winning professional engineers who are committed to mentorship, technical excellence, and practical problem solving. Your contributions will play an important role in developing safe, reliable, and innovative solutions that help move communities forward.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks in the structural engineering field through application of AASHTO LRFD specifications, and design-oriented computer programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of bridge project documentation including plan sets, specifications, and engineering estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.
  • Participate in plan and shop drawing reviews.
  • Drafting using MicroStation.
  • Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections.
  • Working under the supervision of a Project Manager or Senior Level Engineer.

Required Skills


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a 4-year accredited university.

Preferred Experience

  • 0 to 3 years of bridge structural design and inspection experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Knowledge of structural design principles and analysis for steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • Experience using structural analysis and design software, MicroStation drafting software, Mathcad, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL.
  • Ability to perform field work such as bridge inspections and site visits.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with supervision.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to travel for work.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a general office environment, approximately 95% of the time. The role is generally sedentary but may involve occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds, as needed. Office conditions include adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions related to noise, dust, or similar factors. Occasional field work may be required for inspections of transportation structures, including bridges, retaining walls, and culverts, where conditions may include heat or cold, wet or humid weather, and dry or arid environments.
