Student Life is seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and creative Student Development Coordinator to develop and deliver programs, events, and resources that support student success, engagement, and skill development.


This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a busy, student-focused environment and can confidently move between leading programs, coordinating complex events, supervising student staff, creating engaging communications and social media content, and building strong relationships with campus and community partners.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of student development and engagement programs and events, including first-year student success, academic skills, career mentorship, and volunteer programming.
  • Lead the ongoing development and delivery of the Career Mentorship Program, including participant recruitment, promotion, alumni and community engagement, training, events, participant support, and program evaluation.
  • Develop and coordinate student volunteer opportunities that support student development and operational needs across Student Life.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, direction, and task coordination to part-time student staff, supporting employee development and effective completion of assigned work.
  • Provide leadership and support to program participants and volunteers through training, relationship building, problem-solving, conflict navigation, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop, document, and maintain program procedures, processes, resources, records, data, and reporting, identifying opportunities for improvement through participant feedback, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Plan and execute Student Life marketing and communications activities, including social media campaigns, promotional materials, presentations, instructional resources, student learning materials, webpages, and portal content.
  • Contribute to institutional committees, departmental initiatives, program planning, and other collaborative activities that support Student Life priorities.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging practices and trends in student development, student engagement, and post-secondary programming and apply relevant practices to program development and improvement.

Skills & Abilities

Success in this role requires someone who can take ownership, organize competing priorities, communicate effectively, and turn ideas into well-executed programs and experiences for students.


Key competencies include:

  • Leadership & Initiative: Demonstrated ability to lead programs and projects, provide direction to student staff and volunteers, exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional Organization: Strong project and event management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple programs, deadlines, stakeholders, communications, and logistical details simultaneously.
  • Social Media & Digital Communications: Experience developing social media content and campaigns to promote programs, engage audiences, and drive participation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal, collaboration, persuasion, and partnership-building skills.
  • Inclusive Practice: Ability to effectively support and communicate with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ability backgrounds and with varied identities, experiences, and interests.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to anticipate challenges, respond quickly to changing circumstances, and find practical solutions while maintaining a positive student experience.
  • Research & Resource Development: Ability to identify evidence-informed practices and translate information into useful student development programming and resources.
  • Digital & Administrative Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and comfort learning and working within systems such as PeopleSoft, Brightspace, student engagement platforms, content management systems, and other digital tools.

You are a highly organized self-starter who enjoys taking the lead and making things happen. You can see the big picture while keeping track of the details that make a program or event successful. You communicate confidently, build positive relationships, and know how to create engaging social media and promotional content.


Most importantly, you are motivated by creating welcoming, well-organized, and meaningful experiences that help students connect, develop skills, and succeed.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma
  • Considerable related experience (3-5 years) is required
  • Equivalencies may be considered

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.


Remuneration

Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

The compensation range for this job posting is : $67,746.44 - $90,789.29
