Student Mentor

Role Description The Student Mentor is a full-time remote role responsible for guiding students through their personal, academic, and professional development. In this position, the mentor will conduct regular one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, help students set goals, and provide ongoing support and accountability. The role involves designing and delivering virtual workshops, sharing learning resources, and connecting students to relevant opportunities within Wendi’s programs and partner networks. The Student Mentor will collaborate with program staff to track student progress, document outcomes, and adapt mentoring strategies based on individual needs. This role also includes contributing to community-building activities, collecting feedback, and supporting continuous improvement of Wendi’s mentoring and leadership initiatives.

Qualifications

• Strong mentoring, coaching, and guidance skills, with the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience in education, youth development, or leadership training, ideally within non-profit or community-based programs.
• Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, including comfort with virtual meetings and online collaboration tools.
• Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple students, sessions, and reporting requirements in a remote setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to empowerment, inclusivity, and community development, with cultural sensitivity to the Ugandan context.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Development Studies, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in basic digital tools (email, video conferencing, shared documents) and openness to learning new platforms used by Wendi.
• Prior experience working with students or youth as a mentor, teacher, counselor, or facilitator is highly beneficial.
