Substation Design Engineer – Secondary Design | Contract

Thor Companies is recruiting two Substation Secondary Design Engineers to support newly awarded projects with an electrical engineering business.

This opportunity suits engineers with experience designing control and protection systems for medium- and high-voltage substations.

Contract details

• Initial six-month contract, with potential to extend.
• Target start date: 1 October 2026.
• Primarily remote, with an office visit once every two months and site travel when required.
• Two positions available.

The role

You will support the delivery of secondary electrical designs for MV/HV substation projects, developing control and protection schematics and associated design documentation. You will work with the wider engineering team to ensure designs meet project requirements and support technical queries throughout delivery.

Requirements

• At least five years of electrical design experience.
• Proven experience designing MV/HV control and protection systems.
• Experience producing protection schematics, wiring diagrams and associated secondary design documentation.
• Good English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Brownfield project experience is preferred. Previous work on Scandinavian projects would be a strong advantage.
