Grow Your Skills, Grow Your Potential
Responsibilities
This intern will join a team within Enterprise Marketing focused on creating and improving digital content that helps customers find, understand and engage with State Farm online. The team brings together content strategy, copywriting, SEO, AI search and web expertise to improve experiences across statefarm.com and other digital channels.
This is an opportunity for an aspiring writer to gain hands-on experience creating content for a nationally recognized brand while learning how strong writing, customer needs, search behavior, brand standards and business goals come together. The intern will work alongside experienced writers, content strategists, SEO professionals and other marketing partners and will have opportunities to contribute to real consumer-facing work.
As an intern in this role, you will get to:
* Write, edit and optimize consumer-facing digital content across formats such as articles, product and landing pages, FAQs, email, social content and video scripts.
* Learn how copy changes based on the audience, channel, customer need and stage of the decision-making journey.
* Use SEO and search insights to help create content that is useful, easy to find and aligned with what customers are looking for.
* Research topics and translate complex insurance or financial concepts into clear, approachable language.
* Partner with copywriters, content strategists, SEO professionals and other marketing teams to develop and improve content.
* Participate in content reviews and learn how feedback, brand standards, accessibility, legal considerations and customer insights shape published work.
* Explore responsible uses of generative AI for research, ideation, drafting and editing while applying human judgment to the final product.
* Review content performance and learn how data and customer behavior can inform future writing and optimization.
Project work and training:
The intern is expected to complete one or more meaningful content projects during the summer, potentially including developing new digital content, optimizing existing content or helping create a connected set of content around a customer topic or need.
The intern will receive hands-on coaching and exposure to digital copywriting, editing, SEO and AI search fundamentals, content strategy, brand voice, accessibility and the processes required to publish consumer-facing content within a large organization. Project assignments may span multiple digital channels to help build a broader understanding of how copywriting works across the customer experience.
Qualifications
We are looking for:
- Seeking a current Sophomore, Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program majoring in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, or a related discipline, with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- An ideal candidate will have experience with:
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, including familiarity with AP style.
- Ability to write clearly and adapt content for different audiences, formats and purposes.
- Experience collaborating across teams and incorporating different perspectives and feedback into solutions.
- Ability to adapt across different types of work and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to receive and apply feedback.
- Strong verbal, listening, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to take ownership of assignments while seeking input and guidance when appropriate.
Preferred/Additional Experience
* Interest in a career in copywriting, journalism, digital content, content marketing or a related field.
* Coursework or experience in writing for digital channels, journalism, marketing, communications or advertising.
* Writing samples or a portfolio demonstrating strong writing ability.
* Familiarity with SEO, content management systems, analytics or digital marketing concepts.
* Experience using generative AI tools responsibly for writing, research or ideation, with an understanding that AI-generated content requires review and editing.
* Experience writing for multiple formats or audiences through coursework, student organizations, internships, freelance work, publications or personal projects.
