The Sustainability Consultant role supports effective delivery of Co-operators Integrated Annual Report and embedment of sustainability, climate, and resilience across the organization. Working collaboratively with partners across the enterprise, the role supports projects, initiatives, reporting requirements and communications that advance Co-operators' vision of being a catalyst for a resilient and sustainable society.

How you will create impact:

  • Supports implementation of Co-operators sustainability and climate strategies in support of overall enterprise strategy.
  • Coordinates implementation of sustainability and climate-related projects and special initiatives.
  • Supports employee engagement initiatives related to sustainability programs and priorities.
  • Supports evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of sustainability initiatives and partnerships to assess progress toward business goals and desired outcomes.
  • Supports content collection related to the Integrated Annual Report, including regulatory disclosures through our Public Accountability Statement and Climate Report.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, coordinates the sustainability data collection platform, and supports audit activities related to Integrated Annual Report data collection and reporting.
  • Conducts research and scans best practices and trends in sustainability, climate action and resilience to support program and partnership development.
  • Supports the AVP, Sustainability and Sr. Sustainability Communications Consultant in communicating sustainability programs and priorities with employees across the organization.
  • Supports maintenance and updates to sustainability content on internal communication platforms.

To join our team:

  • Master's degree in Sustainability or a related discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience in sustainability, climate, reporting, program implementation or related areas within the insurance or financial services sector.
  • Solid partnership-building skills and ability to build strong working relationships, trust and confidence with internal and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and management skills including planning, scheduling, , decision making and problem solving.
  • Experience and knowledge of sustainability and social impact risks, opportunities, challenges and emerging trends in a Canadian context.
  • Solid knowledge of co-operative principles, philosophy, values and sector.
  • Solid data analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel.
  • Understanding of the insurance industry, particularly climate-related risks, disaster-related losses and sustainability opportunities

  • You are comfortable working with data, reporting requirements and cross-functional collaboration to advance sustainability objectives.

  • You have strong communication skills to clearly convey messages and explore diverse points of view.
  • You build trusting relationships and provide guidance to support the development of programming.

Salary information​

Expected salary range $72,847 - $121,411​

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​​

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
