Our Vision: Be the best at what we do. Our Mission: Improve lives through technology.

Summary:

“Customer Inspired” isn’t our slogan — it’s our driving force, and C Spire team members live it. We aim to engage the exceptional and embrace operational excellence to best deliver connectivity and technology solutions that advance our communities and customer’s lives. It’s a challenging goal, but we have a winning team that is looking to grow.

Help keep the Microsoft infrastructure behind C Spire’s cloud, data center, and enterprise environments reliable and secure. Depending on your experience, you’ll contribute to or lead administration work across Windows systems, identity, virtualization, and Azure—including the foundations that support AI workloads.

This role is open at Levels I through IV, with scope and technical leadership aligned to the level of hire.

Responsibilities:

What You Will Do

In all of your duties, you will have a relentless, obsessive, yet disciplined approach to manage all details to perfection and deliver desired results.

  • Design, build, and operate cloud, data center, and enterprise Windows systems, progressing from implementation under senior guidance at Level I to architecture and delivery across multiple projects at Level IV.
  • Administer supported server, identity, endpoint, productivity, cloud, virtualization, and virtual desktop environments, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Office 365, Exchange, Azure, VMware vSphere, KVM, VMware Horizon, and Citrix.
  • Install, upgrade, patch, test, monitor, and troubleshoot systems; provide technical support, participate in on-call coverage, and document findings and actions when escalating issues.
  • Identify risks before they affect customers, investigate incidents, and drive lasting fixes—with responsibility for complex escalations and systemic improvements increasing at senior levels.
  • Build and secure the Windows, identity, and Azure foundations for AI workloads in partnership with AI and data teams, applying appropriate access, logging, and data-handling controls.
  • Use, develop, and ultimately set build, deployment, and automation standards; apply PowerShell, DSC, and Ansible, with Python used in senior-level engineering work.
  • Use AI-assisted tools for appropriate engineering, troubleshooting, and documentation tasks, verify their output before use, and establish team review practices at Level IV.
  • Design for high availability, backup, and disaster recovery, and apply established security and quality practices—defining cross-team controls and standards at Level IV.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, product development, implementation, support, vendors, and other teams to deliver effective service and make sound technical decisions.
  • Grow technical ownership by sharing knowledge and improving a supported technology at Level II, leading designs and mentoring engineers at Level III, and setting technical direction and developing engineers across the team at Level IV.

This role offers room to deepen your technical expertise and broaden your ownership as you advance through the engineering levels. Depending on your starting level and development, it can provide a foundation for senior or principal engineering, architecture, or technical leadership.

Qualifications:

What You Will Bring

As a C Spire team member you will bring a relentless obsession to be the best in our industry and a winning mentality, determined to outsmart and outdo competitors. You will have a single-minded commitment to unbeatable internal customer and external candidate experience. To support our IT infrastructure team you will have an unapologetic passion for innovation and technology and an uncompromising drive toward continuous improvement.

In addition to that, we require:

System Admin I

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on administration experience with technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, Office 365, Azure services, VMware or KVM virtualization, Citrix, or monitoring systems.
  • Basic networking, backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability experience, plus exposure to scripting or automation.

  • Curiosity about using AI tools in engineering work and awareness of associated security and data-privacy risks.

System Admin II

  • All System Admin I requirements.

  • Hands-on PowerShell automation experience and sound judgment when applying AI tools to engineering work.

System Admin III

  • All System Admin I and II requirements.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on enterprise engineering experience, advanced knowledge of three or more supported technologies, and expert depth in at least one technology recognized by peers.
  • Advanced networking, backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability experience.
  • A proven record of leading the design and implementation of production systems and mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Hands-on PowerShell automation experience.

System Admin IV

  • All System Admin I, II, and III requirements.
  • At least 7 years of hands-on enterprise engineering experience, advanced knowledge across a majority of supported technologies, and expert depth in several, recognized inside and outside the team.

  • A proven record of leading architecture and delivery of complex production systems and developing other engineers.
  • Deep PowerShell automation experience, experience with Python, DSC, or Ansible, and the ability to present technical recommendations to leadership.
  • Sound judgment in setting security and data-privacy guardrails for AI-assisted engineering.

We will give special consideration to candidates who have:

  • Monitoring system administration experience.

  • Infrastructure-as-code experience, such as Terraform or Bicep.
  • Certifications in one or more supported technologies, such as Microsoft, VMware VCP, or Citrix.
  • PowerShell exposure at Level I, and Python, DSC, or Ansible experience at Level III.
