Position Overview We are seeking a System Engineer for the Insurance & Accounting Industry to support and optimize critical application and infrastructure services. This role will help maintain system availability, improve performance, troubleshoot incidents, and ensure secure, reliable integrations across insurance and accounting workflows. You will work with engineering, operations, security, and business teams to deliver stable systems and continuous improvements. Key Responsibilities System Administration, Support, and Reliability Monitor systems and services to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability for business-critical applications. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues using logs, metrics, and root-cause analysis. Perform system maintenance activities including patching, upgrades, backups, and recovery testing. Support incident management, triage, and escalation procedures; communicate status updates to stakeholders. Ensure proper configuration management, version control practices, and change documentation. Infrastructure & Platform Engineering Design, implement, and maintain servers, middleware, and integration components supporting insurance and accounting processes. Collaborate on automation and infrastructure-as-code improvements to reduce manual effort and errors. Work with cloud and/or on-prem environments to manage compute, storage, networking, and security settings. Optimize system performance by tuning services, databases, and application configurations as needed. Integrations, Data Flow, and Automation Support integrations between systems (e.g., policy administration, billing, claims, accounting, reporting, and CRM). Validate data flows and ensure accurate mapping, file transfers, API connectivity, and scheduled jobs. Develop or maintain scripts and automation workflows for monitoring, deployments, and routine operations. Coordinate with application teams to implement fixes for integration failures and data inconsistencies. Security, Compliance, and Documentation Follow security best practices including access control, credential management, and least-privilege principles. Support compliance requirements relevant to insurance and accounting operations (e.g., audit readiness and data handling practices). Maintain up-to-date technical documentation including runbooks, system diagrams, and operational procedures. Participate in reviews of system changes to ensure adherence to standards and approved procedures. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement Work closely with engineering, operations, security, and business teams to deliver solutions that meet service expectations. Participate in standups, planning sessions, post-incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. Share insights and propose enhancements to improve stability, observability, and operational efficiency. Assist with knowledge transfer and onboarding of team members through training and documentation. Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 2+ years of experience as a System Engineer, Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role. Strong understanding of Linux and/or Windows server administration, networking basics, and troubleshooting techniques. Hands-on experience with monitoring and incident triage using logs, metrics, and alerting tools. Knowledge of databases and data handling concepts (e.g., SQL, backup/recovery, performance basics). Experience supporting integrations (APIs, file transfers, scheduled jobs, middleware, or ETL workflows). Strong attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, and commitment to reliable operations. Excellent English communication skills for collaboration, documentation, and stakeholder updates. Comfort working with ticketing/ITSM tools and maintaining accurate service and change records. Reliable internet connection, a suitable home office environment, and ability to work effectively with remote or international teams. Preferred Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and security configurations. Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., scripting in Python/Bash, Ansible, Terraform). Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment support. Knowledge of insurance and/or accounting business processes (e.g., policy lifecycle, billing, claims, invoicing, reconciliation). Certifications such as AWS Certified, Azure fundamentals/associate, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent. Experience with observability tools (e.g., log aggregation, dashboards, alert tuning) and performance monitoring.
