Job Description:

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Systems Administrator II who will administer, secure, monitor, and improve cloud and on-premises infrastructure, primarily AWS.

Provides Level II support across AWS, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Windows, networking, and endpoint technologies; troubleshoots issues and supports implementations, migrations, upgrades, security, automation, and modernization, escalating when needed.

Essential Functions

AWS & Cloud Administration

• • Administer, secure, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot AWS services, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
  • Manage provisioning, access, networking, governance, cost, backup, recovery, and incident response.
  • Support cloud design, deployment, automation, modernization, and documentation.

Infrastructure Administration

• • Administer and troubleshoot Windows servers, storage, virtualization, backups, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and certificates.
  • Monitor capacity and availability; perform patching, upgrades, lifecycle management, and standardization.
  • Support implementations, migrations, modernization, disaster recovery, testing, and documentation.

Microsoft 365 & Identity Administration

• • Administer Microsoft 365 services and Entra ID users, groups, permissions, access, and lifecycle activities.
  • Support MFA, Conditional Access, role-based access, hybrid identity, authentication, integrations, and issue resolution.

Network Administration

• • Support and troubleshoot Cisco switching, routing, wireless, VPN, and connectivity across on-premises, AWS, and remote environments.
  • Assist with changes, upgrades, segmentation, vendors, and network documentation; escalate complex design issues.

Information Security

• • Maintain least-privilege security controls across cloud, infrastructure, endpoints, identity, and networks.
  • Monitor threats and vulnerabilities; support hardening, remediation, incident response, audits, compliance, and risk assessments.
  • Follow established security policies, standards, and procedures.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• • Provide Level II support for cloud, server, network, identity, and application infrastructure issues.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, coordinate resolutions, document changes, and escalate high-risk or out-of-scope issues.

Automation & Operational Excellence

• • Automate administration with PowerShell and maintain monitoring, alerting, reporting, configuration, documentation, and inventories.
  • Support change governance and improve reliability, efficiency, security, and supportability.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance, support, and on-call rotations.

Project Support

• • Plan, test, deploy, validate, and document infrastructure, cloud, security, migration, upgrade, modernization, and lifecycle projects.
  • Complete assigned work on schedule and coordinate implementation and knowledge transfer with IT, vendors, and stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

• 2-5 years (two to five years) of progressively responsible systems, infrastructure, cloud, networking, and cybersecurity experience in highly available hybrid environments.
• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Preferred certifications include one or more of the following:
  • Azure Administrator
  • Microsoft Security or Identity and Access Administrator
  • AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
  • CCNA/CCNP
  • Security+
  • CISSP/SSCP
  • ITIL Foundation
• Experience with AWS and Azure; Microsoft 365 and Entra ID; Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP; PowerShell; Microsoft Defender and endpoint management; Cisco routing, switching, wireless, VPN, and network security; virtualization, backup, disaster recovery, vulnerability management, security monitoring, and infrastructure monitoring.

• Ability to interpret technical and business documentation and communicate technical information clearly to IT staff, management, vendors, and stakeholders.

• Ability to analyze data, diagnose complex cross-platform issues, make sound decisions during urgent events, and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining service quality.

Salary Range:

$60,000 – $80,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)

Location Note:

This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
