Position Summary
As part of our strategy for growth in the UK, we are expanding our Engineering Team and recruiting an Instrumentation Software Engineer. In this role you will develop software and firmware interfaces to control and monitor optical and atomic physics systems for the development of next generation atomic clocks and PNT systems. These systems offer orders of magnitude improvements in sensing and accuracy compared to current technologies.

Job Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Integrate electronics devices, instruments, third-party devices, and subsystems into larger complex systems comprising RF, analogue, digital, optical, and mechanical elements.
- Translate system-level requirements into practical integration architectures, interfaces, cabling, power, communications, and control schemes.
- Develop system interconnects including cable assemblies, harnesses, RF connections, grounding, shielding, power distribution, and signal routing.
- Perform system bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and performance optimisation.
- Identify and resolve integration issues including grounding, EMI/EMC, signal integrity, timing, communications, power distribution, and environmental effects.
- Develop and maintain system diagrams, interface control documentation, wiring diagrams, integration procedures, and configuration records.
- Define and execute integration, verification, and validation test plans at subsystem and system level.
- Use laboratory test and measurement equipment to diagnose system-level performance and integration problems.
- Support installation, deployment, commissioning, and maintenance of systems in laboratory and operational environments.
- Work closely with electronics, software, FPGA, mechanical, optical, physics, and systems engineering teams to ensure successful end-to-end integration.
- Support supplier selection and integration of third-party equipment and externally developed subsystems.
- Contribute to system risk management, failure analysis, reliability improvement, and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure deadlines are met
- Work within multi-disciplinary teams including physicists, engineers, and technicians to develop solutions
- Adapt to changing circumstances and manage ambiguity effectively
