Tax Associate | $75,000–$90,000 | Concord (Hybrid)

One of the problems with being good at preparing tax returns is that people tend to reward you with more tax returns.

A good tax role should eventually give you something more interesting to think about.

This opportunity is with a CPA firm in Concord where you’ll build on your compliance experience while getting more exposure to tax planning, research, client advisory and more complex files.

You’ll still prepare plenty of returns, but the aim is to understand the reason behind the numbers rather than simply getting them filed.

Why consider it:

  • $75,000–$90,000 salary
  • Hybrid working
  • Concord location
  • Corporate, personal and trust tax exposure
  • Tax planning experience
  • Direct client contact
  • Work closely with experienced Managers and Partners
  • Exposure to more complex tax matters
  • Opportunity to develop technical research skills
  • Support and mentorship
  • Clear progression within tax

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prepare corporate T2 tax returns
  • Prepare personal T1 returns
  • Prepare trust T3 returns
  • Work on federal and provincial tax filings
  • Prepare supporting tax schedules and working papers
  • Research Canadian tax legislation
  • Assist with year-end tax planning
  • Identify potential tax-saving opportunities
  • Support more complex corporate tax matters
  • Assist with business reorganizations and structuring matters
  • Help with CRA reviews and tax audits
  • Prepare supporting documentation for tax authorities
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
  • Assist Managers and Partners with technical tax projects
  • Prepare tax analysis and client reporting
  • Keep up to date with changes in Canadian tax legislation

What they’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of Canadian public accounting experience
  • Experience preparing corporate T2 returns
  • Experience with personal T1 returns
  • T3 trust experience would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation
  • Experience preparing HST returns
  • Exposure to tax planning would be useful
  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients
  • Previous CRA correspondence experience would be an asset
  • CPA designation or currently progressing toward CPA
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • CaseWare and tax preparation software experience useful
  • Someone who wants to develop beyond straightforward compliance work
