This is an exceptional opportunity for a CA(SA) with 1-4 years post-qualification experience who is eager to apply their expertise in indirect tax and product development within a cutting-edge environment.

As the first dedicated tax hire, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the tax function, collaborating closely with engineering and leadership to build out AI-powered solutions that automate global tax return processing. The organisation offers flexible working arrangements, direct access to senior leadership, and the chance to influence how artificial intelligence is used in tax research and compliance. If you are passionate about translating complex legislation into practical system logic and thrive in a supportive, inclusive culture where your input truly matters, this role promises both professional growth and meaningful impact.

Key qualifications and experience required for the Tax Specialist:

  • CA(SA) with 1-4 years' post-qualification Tax experience (essential)
  • Out of audit industry experience
  • Practical confidence using AI tools as part of your daily workflow; you critically assess outputs against source material for accuracy.
  • Relevant research experience gained from roles involving substantive tax research or advisory work; corporate tax exposure is welcome if it involves interpretation rather than pure audit.
  • Nice to have: Compliance or consulting background provides additional perspective on regulatory requirements and client needs within a technology-driven environment.

Key duties for the Tax Specialist:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and refine AI models by applying expert judgement through an AI-first research workflow rather than relying solely on traditional manual methods.
  • Translate complex tax research findings into clear product requirements by providing engineers with precise specifications and practical examples, then validating that implemented behaviour aligns with intended tax treatment.
  • Design, build, and maintain comprehensive product classifications and taxonomy systems that enable accurate determination of tax treatment across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provide dependable internal tax expertise by supporting various teams, including product development, engineering, onboarding, support, and customer success, with concise answers to intricate tax questions.
  • Own the technical quality of all tax content by verifying interpretations against authoritative sources, documenting assumptions thoroughly, and ensuring rules remain current as regulatory requirements evolve.
  • Conduct structured research into unfamiliar tax regimes using intellectual curiosity and analytical strength to challenge assumptions and reach well-supported conclusions.
  • Support ongoing product development initiatives by integrating new legislative changes into system logic and updating relevant documentation for stakeholders.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing within the organisation by communicating technical positions clearly to diverse audiences without unnecessary detail or jargon.
  • Take accountability for evolving responsibilities by bringing structure to ambiguous situations, making informed decisions, and refining approaches through collaborative review processes.

Key skills

  • Structured logical thinking skills enabling you to break down rules into conditions, inputs, exceptions and explain system requirements clearly.
  • Clear concise communication abilities allowing you to articulate technical positions precisely with appropriate context for varied audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity combined with analytical strength; you can quickly grasp unfamiliar tax regimes and reach well-supported conclusions through thorough research.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity; you bring structure to evolving responsibilities while taking accountability for decisions made within collaborative review processes.
  • The ideal candidate is driven, passionate, and intelligent, with a proactive approach and a commitment to excellence.
