Leiden University College is seeking a motivated Teaching Assistant (TA) to support teaching in Global Public Health in the context of a Liberal Arts and Sciences programme.

What you will do

The TA will work closely with the course instructor to develop engaging, interactive learning materials for in-person and virtual teaching. Responsibilities include preparing course resources which include syllabi and weekly lecture material, helping students connect neuroscience, epidemiology, and other core areas of global public health. The TA will also manage virtual connections to foster an inclusive and participatory classroom. Some administration to ensure students have access to materials will also be required. At times, the TA can lead lectures based on topic and level of comfort.

The lecturer for the Epidemiology and Social Determinants of Health will be your main point of contact and managing the daily work tasks. The Major Team Lead of the Global Health, Innovation, and Society major will be the direct supervisor. The TA may have some opportunities to enage with the wider Global Health, Innovation, and Society team who teach a variety of courses and are engaged in research based in the Hague as well as overseas.

What you bring

In this team, we are looking for someone who support development of curriculum at the intersection of neuroscience and Global Health. Candidates should have experience working virtually with students and be confident setting up and managing classroom media, including video-conferencing platforms and digital learning tools. Excellent organisational, communication, teamwork skills are essential as is the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible learning activities.

This position is a good fit for you if you recognise yourself in the following:

  • Master’s in Neuroscience

  • Background in Global Health

  • Ability to think in an interdisciplinary manner

  • Familiarity with teaching and learning in a small scale Liberal Arts and Sciences program

  • Ability to work in both a team and independently as needed for the task

  • Excellent organisational, communication, teamwork skills

What we offer

This is a part-time (0,2 FTE) and temporary position for one semester (five months) in the first half of 2027. You can count on an enjoyable job within the socially relevant world of education and research.

We also offer:

  • An employment contract for the duration of five months. This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;
  • A salary between €3173 - €3785 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (Scale 06);
  • A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;
  • Full reimbursement of public transport commuting costs for home-to-work travel;
  • Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.
  • Lots of options when it comes to secondary employment conditions; we can, for example, discuss options for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our terms of employment individual choices model, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as an advantageous sports subscription and bicycle scheme;
  • If your work allows it, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands;
  • A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces. The University will also provide you with a laptop and a mobile telephone.
